2 Scrimmages - UConn - 10/21 and at Maryland - 10/28

Sounds like a guy who got an interview with the coach last week and agreed not to share anything

I think this criticism applies well to not playing the high profile charity exhibitions, but I think it is reasonable for secret scrimmages to be secret when it comes to the stats, so coaches can test out stuff without a box score getting over-interpreted.

How bout just be honest … too secret and don’t know much or - out of respect for both coaches I’m not divulging anything?

It just seems to be a bit tongue in cheek as compared to *other teams. If other teams are getting official tweets about their scores and high scorers etc. and the benefit is that it stirs up enjoyment for the fans- ie: gives them something to talk about in the weeks leading up to the season, then it just seems like it’s ANOTHER missed opportunity on our end.

If there were some real potential dangers about sharing this information then other teams wouldn’t do it at all.

Anyways- on to the next one.

Not sharing secret scrimmage info is pretty low on the impact list of things Tony does to show he doesn’t care about promotion. But also to be fair, it’s a super long list…

Only thing I can tell from the multiple and often contradictory UConn posts is that at least 9 Huskies by my count were “impressive”. And they were the visitors? Fort Knox ain’t got nuthin on JPJ.

We supposedly beat them pretty bad last year in the scrimmage and look what happened for UConn at the end of the year. It is interesting that some programs are airing their scrimmages for charity and I would think Tony would be all for that but it does seem like they want to keep it as “secret” as possible.

apparently Groves played well vs UConn

Have heard Groves played great. Beeks was Beeks and Buchanan was banging down low. Time will tell if more specifics come out.

Also, Hurley actually gave a few quotes on the scrimmage. Sounds like our Pack rotations were not where they should be (ie they got good looks) but we created some turnovers, Beeks and Harris doing work?

I can close my eyes and see a lazy perimeter pass taken coast to coast by Beekman.

Our rotations not being great is exactly what I would expect if Groves plays a lot

It’s also pretty typical for CTB teams with lots of new pieces. Not really worried about that, but you are prob right on Groves lol

That’s cool he said so too. I actually heard it elsewhere.

Not necessarily — if they were getting open looks from outside, just as easily our guards and wings.

It’s new to a lot of these guys to be on the weakside block when a skip pass goes into the corner and he’s too late to react on a closeout. Rohde, Harris, Gertrude, and Bond would be new to this in a “game” situation, and McKneely got caught napping several times last year.

Same goes for that guard/wing being too far off the weakside block and not being able to rotate into the lane to stop a cutter or driver.

Rotations can affect any position — funny how “it’s gotta be Groves” is always the conclusion.

You think they’d be any better with Jordan Minor trying to unlearn 4 years of 2-3 zone? Or Blake Buchanan coming straight out of the Idaho public high school leagues? At least Groves has played two years in a high major conference.

I looked this up, but I forget : was Moser a pack line or no middle or something else guy? I think he was pack line with Sr Jean, but not sure at Oklahoma.

Not to harp, but another nugget of evidence that defense will be behind offense for first part of the year.

This is an interesting point. HGN has been reporting that the offense is ahead of the defense. The Blue-White scrimmage appeared to be the opposite. But I’ll still take the coaches word for things over the 1 limited scrimmage that we saw.
