BTW, doesnât this free up a whole lot of $? Imagine Ron will get a boost as interim, but that wouldnât compare to Tonyâs salary. Could it be used for NIL? Would be a fitting farewell to Tony that his salary sweetened the NIL pot. Probably doesnât work that way.
I donât think it will start to work that way until the House settlement is approved in a year or so, and/or until Tony gets his wish and college athletes get to collectively bargain
Like, one of the under-discussed parts of the last couple weeks is that Tony is now apparently on the side of the Dartmouth football players in their request to be recognized as employees (which is like step 1 of 10 for collective bargaining and salary caps to become a thing in college sports)
I mean, no shit sherlock.
Both?
Interim Dean and Markel Families Menâs Head Basketball Coach Ron Sanchez is taking over for Former Dean and Markel Families Menâs Head Basketball Coach Tony Bennett.
I read yesterday that Dr. Seuss wrote Green Eggs and Ham because a friend challenged him to write a book using 50 or fewer words. That sentence I just wrote used almost 20 and repeated a bunch of them. Tasty word salad.
Silas Demary Jr (as another ball handler to add to Bliss and Mallory/perimeter defender and physical down hill drawing fouls) and Isaiah Abraham (3 and D wing that pairs well with Cofie).
Thatâs where my 2024-2025 transfer wishlist starts (if Sanchez kills it). If Sanchez bombs, then all of college basketball is fair game as we will need 13 warm bodies.
I had this thought a while ago but was afraid to vocalize it: we should have been rooting for an acceleration of players attaining employee status because Tony would be happy to have a clear, regulated playing field.
Yeah. I also think people may misunderstand what bothers him most. I could be wrong, but from his prior comments Iâve always gotten the impression it wasnât so much NIL that drove him crazy, it was the elimination of the sit out year and the wild full-time free agency that unlimited transfers created. Dude just wants to be able build a team, have players stay, and get old/stay old. Think he might have been ok having others handle the money side of things, but the chaos and recruiting your own dudes every year probably sucked.
Yep, and I think especially the recruiting / transfer calendar which seems to be a real material pain point for lots of coaches.
Why do people think we would have a shot at Shaka?
SHaka once said UVa would be his dream job.
Well, his wife Maya said it, and he agreed. But then he said, but . . . Tony isnât going anywhere anytime soon. That was when he was still at VCU.
I had the chance to watch practice a couple weeks ago and chat with some of the staff, and NIL/transfer rules came up a bit. From what they said, interactions with players/recruits have become increasingly transactional, and itâs really the relationship building that they enjoy.
Because he gets paid 3 and Tony was making 5
Welcome @Macdaddy The random old post of mine that you liked reminded me
That lanky Canadian forward who I thought was the 2nd coming of Jay Huff. Shot 34% from 3 his first year with some solid games.
If he plays well this year, definitely someone I would want to add to our front court.
Definitely has a lot of upside! Plays with a high motor and shoots it well.
And his brother in Juco
This kid is going to be a very hot commodity this offseason (assuming he transfers)
Wow, shooting 66% on 2s against mostly ACC competition (Wake, VT, NCSU).
He went to Sunrise Christian and put up solid numbers there, how did he escape P5 attention?
0.3/2.3 Assist to Turnover ratio shocks the conscience.
If he can keep the ball heâs amazing. But his ORtg is only 109.9. Looks like mostly driven by offensive rebounding.
Auburn or Texas A&M bound.
