I just donāt want our HS recruiting to be all like āI want uber athletic dudes who can thrive in a modern pack lineā and our portal philosophy to be like ācontinuous guys from mid majors, Wisconsin preferred.ā And then our scheme to be like āI want to be the stereotypical version of UVa hoops that we never really were from 2014-19, but people accused us of beingā.
If we pick continuous guys, how bout some that can shoot greater than 30%? If thatās what we like from the portal, go get the better version of that dude in HS recruiting. Or if what we want is uber athletic guys that can dominate on defense then letās play them and not recruit over them in the portal and run a scheme that showcases their strengths.
In other words, Iād like there to be some coherent over-arching goal we are trying to achieve with 1) HS recruiting, 2) portal recruiting, and 3) what we actually do with the talent.
Conversely, if we are gonna be a ājust go out and get the best talent possibleā program, then we need to be significantly more flexible in what we are trying to run
Lord help the transfers we land and on opening night after winding the shot clock down with a lot of blocking/moving said person launches a shot just inside the three point line and missesā¦ hmmmm
