That sums up the main issue I have with poll rankings. The criteria is completely subjective, different from voter to voter. I canât argue with his logic, if thatâs how he chooses to base his rankings. Itâs not how I would do it but thatâs the system.
Of course, the other and maybe bigger problem with the media polls is that so many voters donât pay enough attention and end up with ridiculous rankings sometimes.
Thatâs what always killed the coaches poll for me. College coaches arenât watching other teams itâs ridiculous to even assume they are.
The polls are what they are - they provide a fairly reasonable directional ranking of the top 25 out of 136 teams that by-and-large rewards winning, recent performance and represent public perception of the programs/conferences.
There will always be little quibbles between the different cross-sections of the poll by fans of individual teams.
Am I naive enough to think that Virginia is better than all 20 teams behind them in the poll? Nah.
Do I think they should be rewarded through the system that has been in place for multiple decades in the #10-15 slots? Yeah.
At least after tonight no one will care about or pay attention to the AP or coaches poll.
In the âThis person used to be part of UVAâs football program and I have weird feelings about itâ category of games today, Broncoâs Utah State team is facing off against Colandreaâs UNLV team right now on CBSSN.
Itâs funny â watching Utah and Dampier right now.
Bronco recruited him to NM State. He recruited Taysom Hill to BYU. Benkert, Perkins, Harvey, and Rodriguez to UVa, and had a commitment from Sellers.
Dude has an eye for talent â at least for QBs who make the NFL either as QBs or at another position.
Jacob Rodriguez is having an unbelievable season.
If cocaine were a football coach, itâd definitely be Kirby Smart.
That game had the moat Bronco ending ever. The Utah st kicker missing 3 game winners brutal
It was wild for sure
Bronco was correct with his assessment of âfootball playerâ
SoâŚ. When we played Penn State and Sam Ficken missed four FGs and an XPâŚ.
But somehow that was Mike London vs. Bill OâBrien.
That somehow makes sense
Kinda crazy graph. The ACC won almost as many time slots as the Big Ten this year despite the Big Tenâs TV contract in the aggregate being worth more than the SEC. CBS/NBC got killed with the Big Ten âBâ package, Oregon/Iowa the only CBS 3:30 game to win the time slot after they used to dominate it. Just not enough depth I guess. Interesting from a financial perspective.
ABC/ESPN: 34 wins
FOX: 7 wins
CBS: 1 win
NBC: 0 wins
(By home team)
SEC: 29
Big Ten: 6
ACC: 5
Big 12: 2
The sad thing about the ACCâs 5 slot wins is that 3 of the games were against SEC teams and 4 of them came when there was no SEC on ABC game in that window. Also the Miami-ND game got 10.8 mil viewers on a Sunday night and UVA-FSU got 4.4 mil on a Friday night.

TTU beating BYU so bad theyâre going to have to put Miami in with ND and Miami right beside each other lol. BYU may fall into the 20s after this, TTU could pick a number right now
lol at McGuire thanking womble and Campbell. Gotta shout out your donors in college sports in 2025 I guess!
I canât tell if youâre lumping UVA-FSU in to the âsadâ, but I believe that was ESPNâs highest rated Friday night game ever. Friday night has been a ratings graveyard since the birth of TV.
