Also, perfect timing to have the episode with the Ugo segment drop right after he has a great game.

Pardon, monsieur?

The best part is that whoever filmed it is just as surprised as we are that Carrère did that.

Curious what everyone thinks of our two European bigs. Are TDR and Grünloh NBA-level talent? Hard to tell with the poor competition we’ve faced, but what are your initial thoughts? I honestly see more NBA potential in Onyenso so far.

Grünloh is a yes for sure…just a question of at what point it makes financial sense. De Ridder is probably always gonna be fringe, could see him having an Anthony Gill type career. Will be interesting what he does next year.

The prospect of getting them both back next year is crazy.

I think Grünloh needs another year in the US to bulk up. Agreed TDR is fringe, unless he blows up during ACC play. Guess going back to Europe could always be an option if there’s a big contract but feel like we could offer more $.

IMO the biggest impediment to keeping Thijs is if the rev cap is real. I’m sure we’d be willing to pay more than a G-league or euro team, which is what I think he will be looking at at his age, but will we be able to?

I still want clarity on how stiffly enforced the rev share 20m is going to be. That in theory affects so much, but also might not matter at all

Hampton and Marshall games feel like real turnarounds on this. Team looks far more legit now.

Defense will be a struggle all season, but we knew that going in. Probably a problem they can’t address much til year 2 unfortunately. Put on a show and make us attractive to more kids for then

I was curious so I looked at a similar timeframe for last year’s season: T-Rank - Customizable College Basketball Tempo Free Stats - T-Rank

Teams that were in the “First Two Week Top 25” and missed the NCAAT, with their First Two Weeks rank in parentheses:

  • Cincinnati (#6)
  • Pitt (#9)
  • Boise St (#12)
  • Penn St (#14)
  • UC Irvine (#17)
  • Nevada (#18)
  • North Texas (#24)

Other notable teams outside the first two week Top 25:

  • St John’s (#33)
  • Florida (#49)
  • Michigan St (#98) - the lowest ranked team at this point that ended up being a top-4 NCAAT seed

At least 3 of the 1-seeds were actually at the top of the rankings this early on.

Interesting! Thanks for looking that up!

1, 6,7,8,9 and 15 … solid!!!

Hoo would win a 5 game series?

  • Current Hoos
  • Former Hoos still active on college rosters?

Some of our departures are doing well, but I feel like the current group holds together better as a team. Assuming we don’t count recruiting near-misses, who’s the PG of the “Former Hoos”?

Great info!

This isn’t a list that I see many similarities with our current team on. Non power conference teams that more or less needed to win their leagues to make it. Penn State maybe a little just as a coach early-ish in their tenure in a power conference (and a hire from VCU). Wes Miller had been at Cincy for a while and should have been rolling at that stage.

If anything its pretty impressive to be up there without a win over a decent team and 14 new pieces.

This makes me feel really good about where we are.

My real point of comparison for our team this season is Louisville from last year, and they look like they were still in the 100s on this metric at that time. They had to play Tennessee early and lost though so not perfect apples to apples by any means.

What’s that look like?

Dai Dai-Rohde-Bond-Cofie-Buchanan? Would Warley start? maybe nominally at the 3 over Bond but sort of as the PG?

Then Bliss, Power, Traudt, Jabri, ARob to fill out the rotation? Could Jabri push for a starting spot? Could ARob?

Am I missing anyone?

The frontcourt battle would maybe be interesting but give me the older dudes and ones that have been playing professionally for years.

I think we’d torch them.

Thijs and Malik are better than every single one of those players. GrĂźnloh and Jacari would probably start. Lewis and Chance maybe too.

Current Hoos and it wouldn’t be close imo
