Man, did we get okey-doked by Brownell? Damn, welcome to the ACC, Coach Odom.
Or just take a small portion of the money we are getting from OSU and get Dayton to come to JPJ.
Handshake line deal with LâAmeal Etang to transfer to UVA.
Odom thinking long term here
Edit Ameal LâEtang. Whatever he will be Frenchie #2 for me
Using Torvik preseason ratings our non con is
2 Q1 (Tex, OSU)
4 Q2 (NW, Butler, Dayton, Maryland)
0 Q3
6 Q4
Plus one TBD allegedly on 11/15, I would assume this is another buy game since no buzz otherwise but who knows
Breaking it down further, both Tex and OSU would be Q1A games (top half of Q1), NW & Maryland Q2A, and Butler and Dayton Q2B.
Thanks for this! We could do a whole lot worse than Dayton. Scheduling tough quad one games can backfire if youâre not winning them, especially if weâre getting our asses kicked like last season.
Disagree- our tough schedule last year didnât backfire. What backfired was that our team kinda sucked.
If you have a crap team, thereâs not much scheduling can do to help or hurt you.
And yes, to be clear, there are 350+ teams in D-1 and about 250 will be worse than Dayton. That is correct. If we are lucky, 250+ will be worse. If unlucky, it will be slightly less than 250.
When the committee decides to just rely on WAB, this wonât matter as much. Schedule strength still matters in a world where WAB exists and quadrants donât, but you wonât have to sweat whether a team is #50 or #51.
I could have done with one more ironclad Q1 game, just because I donât trust the overall quality of the ACC anymore. Think Clemson would have had a better opportunity to end up Q1 compared to Dayton but obviously something fell through there.
I wouldnât want our schedule this season to be a gauntlet, think itâs probably gonna take some time for our team to fully mesh given all the new pieces but I do hope in the future Odom is more willing to set up some marquee matchups.
I donât take a stats-based view on this, tbh
My view is more influenced by:
- I live in a small town but it tends to enjoy hoops and produces a lot of UVA hoopers and itâd be nice if UVa came and played here a bit more. Which is true on its own, but when we are deciding to play (multiple!) neutral site games in Tennessee, and the 5th or whatever game in the state of North Carolina, it irks me even more
- I enjoy watching UVa play good teams, and Dayton most likely wonât be a good team
Yet another reason scheduling needs to be taken out of schoolsâ hands. They mostly fuck it up.
Rant over (psych)
** will add - I also enjoy us playing traditional rivals (like Clemson), so I was open to Charlotte as a way to facilitate that game. Playing Dayton in Charlotte NC is just a plain and simple fuck up. Someone fâed up, and now we are playing Dayton in Charlotte. Which is fine! I F shit up all the time, too. Life goes onâŚ
Before we got sidetracked by this ABSOLUTELY DUMB AS SHIT DAYTON GAME THAT SOME SCHEDULE GENIUS SADDLED US WITH, I was going to post this nice article on our offense.
So - hey Charlotte sports fans! All 5 of you who will watch random college hoops instead of conference championship games, maybe you want to come and watch our offense? Hello? Maybe?
For someone living in CLT, I like it and we only play at Duke and NCS this year in those areas you mentioned. They are still 2-3 hours away and Duke is expensive to buy. Also, donât know the projection for the upcoming season but Dayton did win 23 games last year so no push over. I assume we will be good regardless so if we play to our level it will all work out come March,
I have a buddy who lives there now, maybe Iâll fly down and come to the game and heckle the staff, and ask them to pay for my ticket. Maybe a beer or two, as well? Itâs only fair.
I get that Dayton probably wonât be as good as Clemson, Q2 vs Q1 and all. But I donât think it makes that much difference. I didnât really care that much for the idea of playing an ACC opponent out of conference anyway, sorta defeats the purpose.
Drove down to Charlotte for the Florida game a couple of years ago and was treated to âSupperlandâ for the first time.
Any opportunity to go back is welcome now!
I welcome you to disagree with me but I didnât say any of what you wrote in your response.
I mean itâs certainly the case that of the ACC tier one/two (Duke, Louisville, NC State, UNC, us) we have the easiest non-con, and probably by a decent bit. Just gotta hope it doesnât bite us.
The verdict: Virginia should have four or five trustworthy shooters on the floor at all times with a sterling mix of creators, slashers, rim-runners and post-up threats. Virginia should be a top-five offense in the ACC for the first time since 2021, and it also has the upside to flirt with a top-10 offense nationally.
Top-10 offense is probably a realistic 95th percentile outcome, so while that looks like an aggressive prediction, I like it.
Iâd probably peg our range of outcomes as:
- Offense: 10th-40th
- Defense: 25th-75th (think a wider band makes sense here)
According to D1Docket
Duke
Top 25: 5
Top 50: 7
Top 100: 7
UL
Top 25: 3
Top 50: 6
Top 100: 7
UNC

Top 100: 5
NC State (depends on Maui)
Top 25: 1
Top 50: 5-6
Top 100: 6-7
Virginia
Top 25: 1
Top 50: 3
Top 100: 6
Supplerland is great! Right down the street from me. We could be playing Tarleton State for all I care - just happy weâre playing a game in Charlotte. Canât wait.
