⚾ 2025 Baseball Offseason

Hell no, give me SEC over B1G all day long.

Made the tournament twice in 12 years before they hired their ace pitching coach in 21 or 22. Hard pass!

Walter is someone perfectly acceptable to have on one’s list. I just didn’t have him on my personal list.

He’s been on some SEC hot lists the last couple years and there’s been some question as to if he’s a guy that you can move.

I do wonder if the setup he has at Wake would be repeatable here. We don’t have the bandbox he’s got at Wake. Their pitching lab is advanced and very specialized. It’s kind of a one of one in college baseball. They seem to have a few mega donors in baseball that allow them to work the portal much better than us (we weren’t sniffing Chase Burns). And then there’s the Muscara factor. People not familiar with the inner workings at Wake do wonder if the success is Walter or Muscara based.

If you answer the Wake/Walter questions to your satisfaction, then the recent success is obviously impressive. He’s a former Georgetown player and got his masters at George Washington when he was coaching there (Georgetown / UVA academic focus a good match.) At GW, he took them to 1 NCAA tournament and won .601 of his games. At New Orleans, which he left GW for (would be curios about that move), he won .510 of his games and took them to 2 NCAA tournaments. He’s also a PA native which would potentially fit well with our established recruiting pipelines.

Oh damn, it’s “which shitty life raft where we will be a third class citizen will be slightly better than the other shitty life raft” season, and nobody sent me a greeting card to remind me.

SEC over B1G 10000%. The appeal of going B1G is probably really only academic. As a sports fan SEC far triumphs that.

But back to Oak, we’re talking about 16 teams out of 300 having the full funding here. Maybe a handful more as we see how things progress. Either way getting to 10% of the entire NCAA meeting full funding seems like a stretch.

And uhhh… has anyone told him where the visiting bullpen is at Dudy Noble Field?

Didawick moving on from the program as well. Again not sure if it’s the portal or the draft, doesn’t specify.

Tough call for Didawick.

I think I’d advise him to go to the draft.

If he returns for 2026 anywhere and has another tough year, his potential siging bonus in the 2026 draft is going to be peanuts.

As per this article and what looks like Carla and VAF stepping in big time, we still might retain Coach BOC. Carla and the VAF have also been working on this (baseball) since this past fall. But, as others have rightly (and with great clarity) pointed out, there were several dominoes yet to fall or be made clear (Rev Share, Scholarship Limits, Funding, etc). Looks like the Oregon or Kansas coaches are the two front runners for the Miss St. job:

This article is from three days ago. Since then Rogers has come out to say that BOC is the front runner for the job and all signs are pointing towards an announcement within the next couple of days.

I’m sure that our administration is trying as hard as they can at the 11th hour but from what I’ve heard and read from people close to the program, it’s not looking good at all. Some even believe it’s already a done deal and we’re just waiting for an official signature/announcement.

I have a distant memory of a discussion on LRA of best restaurants in Starkville. Or some other similar town. Seems like the kind of thing we / I would waste our time on.

Oxford has some of my favorite restaurants in the world actually. City Grocery shrimp and grits is maybe a top 5 dish for me. The other restaurants in that group are all insanely good too. This is most of the reason I’m SEC > B1G. No city grocery’s in the B1G footprint that I’m aware of.

Ole Miss baseball games also a blast fwiw, it’s half public park in the outfield and you can bring in beers and grill.

Have not heard great things about Starkvegas cuisine tho

I’d much rather fly economy in American than preferred economy on Spirit

That’s wild. I just bought 6 pounds of Kroger potato salad this afternoon for the first time ever. I’m glad to hear it’s apparently good.
