Heard back from my VAF contact this afternoon. He seemed optimistic about keeping Coach Oak, and feels a lot better than he did 48 hours ago. Apparently the facilities improvements requests have been in motion since the fall along with some increase in funded scholarships. With the offer (not sure of any details) from Miss St 4 days ago (a better than one from before), the wheels really got moving. It seems several of the big players at the VAF have made a full court press to do everything possible to retain Coach BOC. This includes the previous facilities improvements requests plus a couple of new ones, maybe a dozen additional fully funded scholarship, and anything else that would put us on par with Miss St, all of the other SEC teams, and really any team in the country. You never know until the ink runs dry, but he was upbeat about all of it and expects an announcement by tomorrow.

If we can get close to the offer I feel good.. as we’ve discussed the Starkville vs. Charlottesville + having been somewhere for 20+ years and having untouchable status somewhere should close a small to medium sized gap

MSU’s 247 guy just responded on Twitter to a screenshot of @Miraclemaker11 ‘s post saying he thinks it’s trash.
I hope for nothing more than their guy to be wrong about this.

Don’t think he did this to leverage anything. He was (and may still be) serious about taking the job.
Don’t think we expected Miss St to come back with a better offer. That was our mistake.
But my source said he thinks we may have pulled together the funds to keep him here. And he’s one of the guys that committed a big chunk of change when Carla called him this week.

My concern is that he thinks this is how things have to or will operate moving forward and not wanting any part of having to sing for his supper every year. I sympathize with the administration too who seemingly has to hit a moving target with constantly changing rules and regulations.
