Luke Hanson drafted by Texas in the 15th
Matt Lanzendorfer goes in the 15th round to the Dodgers.
We’re officially through 15 rounds. Starting to get to the range where if a HS guy gets drafted it’s not a foregone conclusion they’re gonna sign.
Didawick coming back?
At this point it’s looking like a real possibility. He didn’t enter the portal so not sure what his options would be other than playing another year here.
50-50 he’ll sign?
I’d lean more towards him signing. Would say 80-20.
Ryan Osinski goes in the 17th round to the Yankees.
Why does it feel like they’re just drafting anyone?
That’s a wrap on the MLB draft.
As a recap, the players from last year’s team who got drafted were:
2nd round (Comp): Henry Godbout
5th round: Chris Arroyo
8th round: Jack O’Connor
12th round: Jay Woolfolk
15th round: Luke Hanson
15th round: Matt Lanzendorfer
17th round: Ryan Osinski
The only player we lost from our HS class was Nick Becker in the 2nd round. Overall we made out extremely well, being able to get all of Stroman, Enis, Yoder, Paone, Holmes, and Edwards on Grounds is really nice.
Also Harrison Didawick did not get drafted.
Will say though it’s gonna be rough watching Henry Ford and Aidan Teel play in other uniforms next season. Just doesn’t feel right.
So when will Harrison post the “run it back” photo? The portal is done right?
Also, how does Luke Hansen go but not teel or ford?
Asking prices and leverage. The draft at multiple spots is less about picking the best player possible and more about picking a good player who you know you can get to sign on the dotted line.
Ford and Teel both have two years of eligibility left, and they’re going to SEC schools with briefcases of NIL to throw their way, so they have the bargaining power to demand a high enough asking price that would drive away MLB orgs if they don’t deem them good enough to select in the first few rounds. Also I’m pretty sure those two are represented by Scott Boras, which can’t be ignored as a detail.
You’d think Ford and Teel would have learned lessons from Woolfolk and Didawick…. But particularly the latter.
Ford will likely hit a lot of home runs next spring and possibly parlay that into a first or second round pick. He will be well paid at Tennessee. Win / Win for him.
What a job by Pollard. Honestly think we have a better roster than we would with no coaching change.
As I said earlier, 25 HRs at Tennessee is the same as 10-12 at Virginia.
Stats won’t improve his draft position. Scouts already know what he is — and isn’t.
So didawick is coming back right? He can’t claim the coaching change transfer portal stuff??
Following him on social media, I would be shocked if he’d ever consider going elsewhere. He’s been commenting on other commits saying stuff like “best place ever.” I thought he’d get drafted and sign but there’s still 100% a path for him coming back and improving his stock next year.
