Hoos are listed as one of the first four out.
Last time #1 and #2 preseason missed the tournament in WBB, MBB, BB, or SB?
SEC got 13 in, including a team (Kentucky) virtually no one had in the field.
They know how to game the RPI (winning OOC helps a lot).
Kentucky 13-17 in the SEC. Pathetic.
Yeah I’m not gonna bitch about kentucky when we lost to Liberty and Richmond and a bunch of games to BC
Not surprised we didn’t make it in, as mentioned a lot of things went wrong for us this week in terms of the bubble and bid stealers. Teams like Cal Poly, Nebraska, Western Kentucky and ECU likely pushed us off the cut line.
Very conflicted feelings about the decision to leave us out. On one hand, and of course this is with the bias of me being a UVA fan, I think it’s pretty wild that a team that went 16-11 in the 2nd best conference in the country got left out. O’Connor made a great case for us in his last press conference, we were essentially 1-2 games away from winning the ACC regular season, and again we had zero control over the FSU series being cancelled which objectively would have helped our RPI, the metric that was the main thing holding us back on our resume and also an incredibly flawed metric to begin with. I firmly believe we were playing like a top 25 ballclub in the final month of the season, even when factoring in our loss to BC in the ACC tourney. It’s tough to swallow us sweeping a Miami team that made it in over us as a 3 seed even when factoring in the RPI difference.
But on the other hand, we did ourselves absolutely no favors this season and you can’t really complain too much about this when looking at some of our losses. To me this season comes down to the what if’s, because if you flip one or two results that legitimately may have been the difference for us making the tourney. We had four walkoff losses to Michigan, OU, NCST, and GT, you turn any of those into wins and who knows. NCST one in particular really haunts us, if you remember that was when we put in Lanzendorfer in the 9th and he got squeezed worse than any other pitcher of ours this year. What if we don’t lose to Liberty twice, or we sweep VT instead of just taking 2/3. What if we complete the comeback against Pitt in game two of that series and sweep them like we should have. Lots to think about, but unfortunately nothing we can change now. In the end our struggles in the first half of the season doomed us.
Obviously a very disappointing season, especially considering where expectations were to start out. Gonna be a long offseason, main thing I’ll be interested to see is if there’s movement with Dickinson. If I had to guess there won’t be, but maybe missing the tourney makes BOC rethink things. And also for those wondering, from what I’ve heard we shouldn’t have anything to worry about with regards to O’Connor and the Mississippi State job opening. Unless something has changed within the last week I’m confident he’s not gonna be jumping ship.
Of our draft-eligible underclassmen, assuming Arroyo, Godbout, and Ford will be most in demand?
What an epic failure of a season.
I don’t see those guys leaving with NIL around. Ford had a good year even if his power dropped a tad. I hope they come back for a redemption year!
Pitching has been SUS for some time now. I think you get rid of him and go with someone young!
Nah I would expect all three to be gone. Godbout definitely. Ford you can maybe argue being a hometown kid with another year of leverage could be convinced to stick around, but still unlikely. Arroyo we’ll see, I’ve seen him in the top 150 prospects on a couple lists so general rule of thumb would be he’s going pro.
Maybe NIL does make more of a difference going forward, but I wouldn’t expect cases like Didawick and Woolfolk sticking around another season to happen too often. More for guys not projected in the top 10 rounds and/or have extra seasons of eligibility.
I hope we get ford and arroyo back! Is arroyo based on potential? He was solid but not top 150 imo…. Didawick should’ve left last season lmao.
@KarlHess is the incoming class solid enough to all get drafted and leave us with two guys? ![]()
Do we accept an NIT bid?
Kentucky and Okie state making it along with Miami is bullshyt, no other to call it.
Level the Dish move the aquatic center into the hole that’s left. Level the current aquatic center and let Dragon Entertainment take over football gameday entertainment.
So BOC will likely hold himself accountable for this year but there was clearly something missing chemistry-wise. This team had a large chunk remaining from last year, but it didn’t look like it. It’s mind boggling to me the defensive errors and the base running mistakes. Neither is normal for an O’Connor coached team.
Unfortunately the pitching woes are not new (goes back to the last years of Ks). Drew hasn’t made the hoped for improvement there and a change may need to be made.
So now we wait nervously to see who from the new class survives the draft. Going to miss Ford (I think he will be too attractive to not sign) and Godbout.
