Good for him. Right choice. Prototypical 3B got a 6-game audition, then sat the rest of the season while the positionally small starter hit .150 and made 17 errors.
Honestly I had no issue with his lack of PT. He looked completely overwhelmed at the plate with a very slow bat and was shaky at 3rd.
He needs a fresh start at a lower level.
You think transfer route for a starting 3B?
Yeah probably the most predictable entry. Really, really hope he figures it out.
i’ve always thought its pretty easy to evaluate fielding ability. what you do in practice is pretty much indicative. there’s no defender or defense to deal with once you are in a live game. sure games are a little more pressure but pollard saw him everyday and still decided not to play him. thats telling.
That’s fair but not even going to him when the offense needed some sort of spark and Murray was mired in a month-long slump was disconcerting.
Sometimes you have to shake up things that just aren’t working.
Griffin Enis in the portal. Another one that I thought could have been a contributor next season.

That’s three guys gone from the 2025 class who were top 100 recruits.
I think so. Will depend on how things shake out, think we’re also targeting a transfer SS so maybe the staff thinks Holmes can stick at 2nd or 3rd.
The main thing is we cannot go into fall ball with Noah Murray as the presumed starter there. At minimum there needs to be competition, and ideally we’d get someone who is highly likely to play over him day one.
Holmes at 2nd would be awesome! His arm isn’t made for SS or 3B. Any idea on who we might target for 3rd?
No idea. It can be tough to get a gauge on baseball portal activity, only thing I can really say is Derek Simmons has a ton of follows out to high profile mid major players at basically every position.
Apparently there’s some smoke around Jamie Lakofski, SS from William and Mary. Someone on thesabre said he’s following a bunch of UVA related social media accounts, but he could also be following accounts of other programs too. He’d be a very big deal if we land him though.
He follows UVA Baseball, Eric Tyler, and the Virginia Recruiting account on Instagram.
On X, he follows Derek Simmons.
His recent X follows include UNC Baseball, the UNC Baseball GM, W&M teammate Tom Bourque, Coach Mac, Derek Simmons, UNC assistant Scott Jackson, another W&M teammate, the FSU Director of Baseball Ops, Brewster Whitecaps summer league team, WVU Baseball’s Director of Analytics, WVU Coach Sabins, WVU’s recruiting coordinator, another W&M teammate, and a Cape Cod League account.
Not seeing what the guy on The Sabre sees. Maybe he’s going to commit to us by the end of the week, but the social media smoke isn’t there.
Kinda what I figured but who knows. Would make some amount of sense but I’d imagine a ton of programs are after him, he’s viewed as a potential day one draft pick next year.
Simmons is following a good number of other mid major shortstops FWIW.
We thinking 70-80% Joe is gone? Really hope we manage to get him back.
Tiroly? I’d say north of that. Going to be difficult for him to improve his draft stock over where it is now based on age and raw athleticism. He closed the season super hot and would be a real surprise to me if he risked it to come back.
Yeah I don’t see Tiroly back. Think we’d have a better shot of keeping Johnson and I don’t see that as too likely either.
Harris will be interesting though. I’d lean towards him probably getting drafted but he has a lot of holes in his game.
Seems like a massive reload this year. Zach Jackson and Jake Weatherspoon seem to be the only returning starters. I’m not counting Murray, lmao.
Dang Enis hurts felt like he was slated to maybe start in right if Jackson moves to center.
Obviously take it fwiw but I had heard there was a real breakdown in the relationship with Stroman to where it was a foregone conclusion he was transferring before the season was over
Harris would be my target to keep on board/celebrate pulling it off. I think he could gain from coming back another season.
I would count Holmes in that as well, even if his PT was sporadic. Would be very surprised if he’s not playing somewhere in the field next year.
To be completely honest I wouldn’t mind if we looked to upgrade at catcher. Weatherspoon is a decent bat but was a liability defensively.
Any more movement on transfer in or outs?
