Louisville has a 13 day break until next game - at UVA on 1/3ā€¦ will they be rusty?

Watched some of the Miami game ā€¦ so weird watching teams where everyone tries to score.
Both teams had 8 guys attempt a 3.

I read that as well. But where would the ACC stand if every conference dropped its worse team?

If you took every conferenceā€™s worst teamā€¦ created a new conference with all of them in itā€¦ then had the National pundits talk about how amazing every team was in said conference (create pundit NIL funds?)ā€¦ it would be a power conference in no time because 7 out of 10 teams would be top 25 (70% of each of their games would be against each other ā€œbeating each other upā€) and not winning any games in March Madness. :moneybag: :moneybag: :moneybag: :moneybag:

How will we be able to tell? They play well?

Claudell Harris for BC - best transfer up into the Acc from a mid major so far?
14.6 points per game on 54% 2 pt shooting, 44% 3 pt shooting,
2nd on team In scoring behind Post.

Post (18 pts per game and 46% 3 pt shooting) and Madsen (47% 3 pt shooting) also transfers that worked out very very well for them.

Canā€™t you just do what corporate America does and promote him to a new made up position in between the HC and the AD? Like Chief Bench Officer (CBO)? Then you still have to pay him, but you can then appoint a new HC while not having to pay the buyoutā€¦ at least this year?

Executive Director of ā€œathletic community outreachā€. Yep, means nothing but sounds like it too.

I like your fake made up title betterā€¦ Iā€™m changing my business cards to that now as we speak.

But, and I actually mean this kind of seriously, doesnā€™t Louisville have deep pockets? Did they actually spend it all?

With all the Payne hullabaloo, I was looking at some bad ACC teams, and itā€™s a bit memory-holed, but the Jeff Bzdelik era at Wake was somehow worse than the Stallings era at Pitt and the Payne era at Lville. He had to scratch and claw just to get to a winning record in his last season. The difference maker was a home win against Duke, which proceeded to lose to us in the ACC final, and then Mercer in round 1.

They let him coach there for 4 years! At least the other two guys were or likely will be out after two.

Hey now, lets not jump to conclusions. Louisville last year was worse than WF in 2011, and Louisville this season was no better than WF in 2012 until they inexplicably smoked Pepperdine over the weekend.

You may lack faith, but I have confidence in Payne achieving historic prominence. It is pretty wild they let Bzdelik thrash for 4 seasons before pulling the plug, especially since theyā€™d made the Tournament (as a 9-seed, but still) with Gaudio the year before they hired him.

Stallings tenure at Pitt was kinda wild in that, yeah, they went 16-17 in 2017, but they were far better than Louisville could dream of being these days. They beat excellent UVA and FSU teams and won an ACC tournament game in an era when even the middling ACC teams were serious threats to make the NCAA tournament. 17 of their 18 ACC games were KenPom ā€œAā€ or ā€œBā€ games (roughly analogous to Q1 and Q2, I think).

But holy cow he must have lost that team. Because while its understandable he lost the 4 starters who were seniors, he ALSO lost his fifth starter, Cam Johnson, who was great, but transferred (to UNC, the first big intra-ACC transfer, iirc) along with virtually his entire bench. He had 4 guys graduate and then 5 of his remaining 7 players transfer. 0-18 in conference and Pitt let him go.

Fun trivia point: In 2018, Stallingsā€™ second year, Pitt was the team most likely to have a shot blocked by the other team in all of D1. Then in 2019 under Capel, they were the worst at it again. Repeating with a different coach shows serious organizational commitment to the goal.

They could double the current salary of one of the better HS coaches in the metro Louisville area as interim, and be in a better position than they are with the current staff.

My latest power poll. Again a combo of what the team has done so far combined with how I expect them to play the rest of the year.

  1. UNC
  2. Clemson
  3. Duke
  4. UVA
  5. UM
  6. NCSU
  7. WF
  8. VT
  9. Pitt
  10. Cuse
  11. GT
  12. BC
  13. FSU
  14. ND
  15. UL

UNC and Duke picked up big Q1 wins this past week. This elevates them. I still think the top 5 could finish in any order. UVA will have to grow up fast though because to achieve their goals they will have to beat some good teams on the road and stop getting blown out by good teams.

Spots 6-12 are really up for grabs. You could put all 7 of those teams in a jar and jumble them up and I wouldnt be shocked. Only GT is outside the top 100 in that group and they have a pretty decent resume, with 3 Q2 wins and currently only 1 loss outside the top two quads.

Pretty much the way I would have this right now, but I think Pitt is too low.

Stanford with the big ACC upset over Big 12 - Arizonaā€¦ should help the Net.
