I don’t need much of an excuse to root for basketball misfortune to come to Syracuse in normal circumstances, so I’ll definitely take this opportunity with pleasure.

I’m revising my opinion on the ACC tournament. It’s fine to exclude BC and Miami. They shouldn’t be allowed to play in the ACC tournament or in any organized setting where folks are or may be paying money to watch or broadcast the game.

But then there are about 8 teams that are all about the same and it feels mean to single one of us out.

How amazing would it be to have a variable number of teams in the tournament, decided by how many teams meet some set of minimum requirements like “are you trying hard” and “do you have at least 1 player who’d be in the rotation on an average ACC team”?

Doing that for the NCAAT would be cool too. “We’re doing one extra play-in game because there was no real light between (what would have been) the last team in and first team out, but there was a bit more of a gap to the next-best team”

“Multiple sources tell me Portland Trail Blazers assistant GM Mike Schmitz is interviewing for the newly created GM position at North Carolina.”

Lo Davis is technically kinda already our GM right? and Im assuming if we create an actual GM role it would just be Wally Walker?

Schmitz was Givony’s partner on Draft Express and did a couple NBA Drafts for ESPN. And didn’t he do a lot of the overseas stuff?

I don’t think Lo Davis has the same background. Wally Walker seems like he’s taking a step back, plus I suspect it’s been a while since he’s watched much high school (or low major) hoops.

There seem to be a lot of different conceptions of what the GM role could / should be…

Yeah, it’s interesting. Duke has a sports marketing type in their role (came from Nike), BYU has a coach/administrator (former coach who was more recently an asst AD), and then Schmitz would be more of a personnel/scouting specialist. Not really sure what makes the most sense, honestly.

Hubert Davis is such an awful coach. He has Trimble stand in the corner and do nothing and then he has Trimble guarding Cooper flagg on the other end.

• we lost at home to VPI - not great, Bob
• GT beat Lville - didn’t see that coming
• we are ahead of NC St and have the tiebreaker - seems good
• BC won a game against not Miami - does not compute
