šŸ€ ACC Men's Basketball - Week 14: 3-9 February 2025

NC State definitely looks like our best candidate to be ā€œfirst team outā€ instead of us, especially since we own the tiebreak.

Next best shot might be Syracuse, and NC State and Syracuse still have to play each other, so one of those two is picking up ā€œhalf a lossā€ there (itā€™s about a 50/50 game).

And Syracuse is our final game, so this could easily come down to 3/8

Pretty good illustration of how mid the ACC is right now. There is a scenario where Virginia could F around and somehow get to the middle of the conference standings.

I hate it but Duke actually looks pretty legit.

Caleb Foster not looking good though.

Iā€™d be curious to get peopleā€™s thoughts on which ACC team has underachieved the most this season. Is it ND, Miami, NC State, UNC, UVA etc.?

Itā€™s 100% UNC.

I think itā€™s Miami actually. They had what seemed like a top-25 roster, Bethea had top 5 pick hype coming into the season. And the bottom fell all the way out.

Dude is checked out.

Our win at Pitt increased our expected wins by 1.3, but Tuesdayā€™s GT and FSU wins hurt our chances of playing in Charlotte.

Saturdayā€™s game is huge (-3, 64% vs Georgia Tech) as we currently sit in 15th place in expected wins.

Hold H2H tiebreak over UVA
Cal
Notre Dame

UVA Holds H2H tiebreak
NC State

TBD Tiebreak
Georgia Tech (home Sat)
Florida State (home 3/4)
Syracuse (away 3/8)
Virginia Tech (lost at home, away 2/15)

I doubt Iā€™ll ever be rich and I doubt Iā€™ll ever understand human psychology no matter the wealth/income levelā€¦ but this weird thing about putting your name on stuff. Itā€™s weird, right?

Someone want to stick up for rich folks here? (Keep in mind, they wonā€™t be paying you)

The human mind reckons with the awareness of steadily diminishing grains of sand left in oneā€™s hourglass of life in funny ways.

Also some people are vain.

I deal with it by listening to Fall of Civilizations podcast. Good stuff.

One day John Paul Jones Arena will get torn down for the next arena. Wonder how PTJ feels about that? (probably nothing at all)

Not to be morbid, buit heā€™ll be dead then.

The Meadowlands was named after Brendan Byrne from 81-96, and then while he was still alive, they renamed it after Continental Airlines.

Byrne got the last laugh, though, as he lived until 2018 and Continental Airlines bought United in 2012 and changed their name in shame. Of course the arena was named after Izod by that time, and when was the last time you saw anyone wearing Izod? Izod had naming rights until 2015, but the arena still sits thereā€¦ and is apparently named the Meadowlands Arena, which is what everyone always called it anywayā€¦

The more you know.

Wasnā€™t Oscar da Silva a Stanford player a couple of seasons ago?

Wait, they actually did name it after him:

Thatā€™s pretty cool. Non-vain rich people, hereā€™s a good thing you can do!

Wow, thatā€™s a throw back. Forgot about those, I used to have some of their shirts back in the day
