Yeah, I think most coaches, most of the time, can’t improve players all that much. But players sometimes just improve on their own, and occasionally you’ll get an absolute wizard like pre-Championship CTB. Like Eamonn Brennan put it, “Bennett could take two walk ons, a team manager, me, and my dog and somehow turn us into a top-25 defense by season’s end.” and he was right. A GREAT coach can catch lightning in a bottle.

Oh interesting, only up 30 in T-Rank (the no-preseason ranking would be #61 - two Q2 wins already). It’s not crazy to have the preseason influence be variably weighted (i.e. for teams where you have a lot of uncertainty around, you weight the games more); I don’t know if he’s doing this or not.

It’s a good thing Va Tech is playing Bryant tonight. Otherwise they’d be losing by a bunch. 32 - 24 at the half. Neo has 4 pts on 2 - 7 shooting.

Tech picks it up in the second half, wins 78 - 61. Hansberry out with injury, Tobi played well with 18 pts and 13 rebs. They do a good job of picking up scoring from different players. Might be dangerous if they put it all together, but think they come back to earth once ACC play starts.

Neo ended up with 11 on 4 - 11 shooting (1 - 5 from 3). Outside of the Providence game he’s shooting 35% overall on 15 for 43 shooting (4 - 18 from 3). Lots of assists though. Will be interesting to track this season.

Jeff Capel is such a mediocre coach. It’s kind of astounding how long he’s lasted at Pitt. He’s made the tournament literally once in seven seasons. How on earth is that acceptable at a place that used to be a powerhouse? Does he have dirt on the AD or something?

I talked myself into him being a good fit for us . He probably should have bounced after Jaland Lowe bounced instead of trashing pitt for “lack of resources”
