Agreed. Best case is you keep him feeling so happy and loved that he doesn’t look at other offers. ā€œI’m not gonna get this feeling anywhere else.ā€ Once you fail at that, well, we couldn’t compete.

And from a cost of living perspective it’s even wider … they could probably rent out there VA place and pay for their payment in MS and then some.

Given what I saw in the other thread (I forget which), I’d definitely keep the Cville real estate!

Yep could even make it a VRBO and make a killing

I don’t really have much to add other than it’s about as diplomatic an answer as Carla could give.

Dang, applaud Barber for actually asking that

Wasn’t sure where to put this, but UVa catching the eye of this presidential administration is something I wanted to avoid. It’ll only complicate everything related to the school.

Croatian swimmer Jana Pavalic’s visa took two months for UVa. This helps explain that…..

Given it’s all about money now, those terms have both commercial value, and potentially impacts on players attitudes. How many players will be making more than the assistants?

Ryan surrenders. Cowardice.

On a lighter note, Chris Graham published a piece not 90 minutes ago saying Ryan would not resign and laying out an argument as to why.

For those local, there’s a planned rally at the Rotunda at 3pm today.

A gross example of overreach from the DOJ. Truly a sad day for the University.

Just going to leave a thought from Thomas Jefferson about what his goals and aims for the University were:
This institution will be based on the illimitable freedom of the human mind. for here we are not afraid to follow truth wherever it may lead, nor to tolerate any error so long as reason is left free to combat it.

What a disaster. Just empty flexing from the DOJ.

Not sure what he could have done to comply and make them happy, they always just wanted blood.

This will be a fun day for UVA message board managers everywhere.

I realize it’s impossible to keep it non-political in this case…but just ya know, stay on the subject please, avoid letting it get too carried away.

I have so much I want to say but keep deleting what I start typing. Suffice to say this is ridiculous and a bad bad day for UVA

Truly such a sad day for the University.

For all this talk of Jim Ryan’s insistent support of ā€œDEIā€ they leave out one major detail: that Jim Ryan’s primary motive for ā€œDEIā€ was tailored towards first-generation college students. Not based on race, gender, religion, or nationality - but class.

Jim was a first-generation college student himself. The story of man who never had anyone in his family attend a 4-year college to later go on to become the President of one of our country’s most prestigious institutions is remarkable and should be a testament to the lofty ideal that we call ā€œThe American Dreamā€.

I myself was a first-gen college student. I am white, male, christian, and a naturalized American citizen. Hardly the type of profile you would see propagandized online. I come from a working class family, and many times did feel out place at UVA, given the socioeconomic background of my fellow students at the University. But Jim Ryan was always the calming presence at the top that made me feel like I belonged.

I’m pissed, but I’ll leave you all with this hopeful anecdote of one of the many experiences I had with Jim while at UVA:

Day’s before I was set to walk the lawn as a 4th year, I was invited to an event at President Ryan’s house on Carr’s Hill - a celebration for all UVA first-gen 4th years who were about to graduate. Jim gave a speech that day that I still remember to this day. In that speech he gave us three core principles to live our life by post-graduation:

  1. Always Remember Where You Came From
  2. Never Doubt Yourself
  3. When Your Success Comes. Give back to those who got you there.

That is the Jim Ryan I remember, and will always remember.

I think the least trouble I can get myself in is to point out that universities/law firms/etc seem to be in need of googling ā€œiterated game theory.ā€

Getting myself in slightly more trouble: did the folks who are gung-ho about this memory-hole 2012?

LOL oh man @HoozGotNext please delete this comment when you can but Im saying it.

DEI isn’t about getting unqualified minorities into positions they don’t deserve. It’s giving minorities who are in many times overqualified despite the disparities they have faced an opportunity to not get passed on for those who are unqualified (like we are seeing with the recent administration additions, the irony).

This is clearly Youngkin and DOJ trying to get their guy in before Spanberger wins next fall. Ryan was far from perfect and would probably step down in the near future regardless (UVA’s decline in academic rankings, the hospital thing, etc.) , but over this cause is such asinine bull shit.
