Bad news on my front. My older brother passed away about a month ago. He was in Eugene, OR. Because of wildfires and schedule and my sick parents I couldnā€™t get up here until last Thursday. I did Portland, Eugene, Bandon Dunes, and am now in San Francisco meeting with my friends and his friends while driving his stuff back to my parents in AZ. Iā€™ve had amazing experiences and shared a great deal of beers and stories. My brother started his PHD at UVA but finished at Portland State. He worked in Albemarle and then Fluvanna (FLUCOS still a favorite mascot/brand). He lived in C-Ville for 5 years, I think heā€™s a Hoo. This time and times like this make you realize what you want/need. Family, friends, memories, and some good beer or spirits. My favorites this trip have been Phriem IPA, an super mellow NW stlye IPA with not too much alcohol, Breakside IPA, a NW style IPA out of Portland, and I had some Pliney DIPA on draft. Mixed up with some Pilsners and Oktoberfest beers, I realized that I like NW style IPAs. Iā€™ve been drinking the NE ones a lot, but I think I found my ā€œcomfortā€ beer. Cheers.

@HooRick Sorry for your loss, but absolutely love the story of your travels and your journey. You brother counts as a Hoo to me (Although I canā€™t back the Flucos). It sounds like you honored him well with good food, good drink and good people.

This double ipa from Berkeley is amazing. I was gifted it on my drive back to Tucson. One of the best Iā€™ve ever had. Not NE comfort beer but a really fantastic hazy

It was a rough day for UVA football and fans. Opened up a Belgian style from San Diego while I contemplate that game and watch a different football game to get that out of my head. That was like night and day from last week.
