This DIPA has ā€œ0 IBUsā€ā€¦bitterness doesn’t even register. Good beer though as most of Bingo’s IPAs tend to be. Enjoy.

I think its the best personally. My go to beer to just drink is the Bingo Beer lager… but every other one I’ve tried is very good as well.

I really like Old Maps and for a DIPA this one is good too.

Also really like Vasen - which is a richmond beer, I think (at least widely available there). The Peregrine(?) Pale Ale is tasty. Bunch of good brewpubs in stumble/walking distance from each other in Scott’s Addition, including 3Notch’d, which is a CVille brew, so I guess it’s a satellite brewpub. Also heard good things about the Stone tasting room/brewpub there - if it’s anything like the one that was near Roanoke, would be worth a visit.

Picked up some 4(3?) Crossings Pilsner when I was down there this weekend, but haven’t opened one yet, will report back if I taste before you head to RVa.

I’m not sure it (or anything, really) lives up to the hype but it’s really good. I was in Napa, tagging along to my wife’s conference, and got my hands on some Pliny the Younger. Triple IPA, 12% or something. We were having lunch on a wine tour and I skipped dessert to run across the street and try some. Anyway, it comes out every Feb or March in CA and its pretty limited so I was happy to try a bit. Very tasty, not too much alcohol taste which is why I generally don’t drink triples. Great beer, glad I had the opportunity to try it.

Man I’ve only heard whispers of the Pliny the Younger never had the chance to enjoy. Very cool you got to and also happy to hear it lives up to the hype

If you have a chance, drop by their brewery in Santa Rosa or Windsor. They have a great and underrated collection of sours in bottles that bridge the beer wine divide (also useful if you need to persuade others).

I’ve been to the one near Santa Rosa, it’s awesome. They have a good selection and I agree they are a pretty good brewery overall. Never had their sours, I’ll have to pick some up when I’m in CA again.

My wife’s sister and her family live in Santa Rosa. I’ve been past Russian River countless times, but have never been in. My brother-in-law is a founding shareholder in Lagunitas and refers to Russian River as a cult. One of these days, I’m gonna sneak into SR without his knowledge and belly up to the bar at Russian River. Until then, I’ll have to enjoy my Pliny elsewhere when I can find it.

Lagunitas pretending to be Red Stripe got me once… once

I recall when Lagunitas became a big deal in the hipster scene in DC…

Knew it wasn’t for me then.

Ha! The original brewers used to brew beer together in the late 90s. Wonder if they had some falling out. I’m not sure why, but mother in law (lives in Santa Rosa as well) is friends with the Russian River head brewer … will try to find out more about the beef.

Lagunitas in Petaluma is a better spot to visit imo. Great environment.

If you do end up sneaking to Russian River to buy bottles for takeaway, go to the Windsor one. It’s a huge complex that feels pretty corporate, but they have a better takeaway selection and it’s less hectic than the Santa Rosa location.

Fool me once, I’m drinking an IPA.

Fool me twice, I’m breaking this bottle and disavowing IPAs for life.

Maybe I was at the Windsor one instead of the Santa Rosa one. I was there in Fall of 2020, kind of out in the middle of nowhere and it was a very large, steel clad looking facility if I remember. I’ll have to look it up.

Yes I just looked it up, definitely Windsor.

I used to love hanging out in the Lagunitas beer garden. My BIL, who’s hilarious, would always bigtime everybody to impress us. He and Tony Magee were in a homebrewing club together when Tony started the brewery. After the Heineken acquisition, Jimmy lost his pull at the brewery. I haven’t been to SR since 2017, but I don’t think Jimmy goes down to Lagunitas much anymore. Maybe he’s relaxed a little about Russian River at this point. I hope so anyway,

Capital One Arena is abysmal for drinking beer at Georgetown games. Never again. ACCT was fine. Fully staffed.
