šŸ€ Chance Mallory names finalists again

Arenā€™t all whispers quiet?

Yeah thatā€™s what Iā€™ve been wondering. He very well could push it back, but then why schedule it for two weeks out IF Chance really wants to play for the hometown team all else equal (which seems to be general view), and supposedly we donā€™t have clarity on who the next coach will be and may not on March 22.

A few possible scenarios come to mind 1) making his commitment before the portal opens is the most important thing to him, and/or the hometown draw isnā€™t quite as strong as weā€™ve been led to believe, heā€™s comfortable with passing over the Hoos if the coach isnā€™t there in time 2) he/we actually do have a better sense of who the next coach might be and Chance is cool playing for him (or playing for any of the options), or 3) he simply doesnā€™t care about pushing the date back 1-2 weeks if needed to see who the next coach is.

The most likely outcome is that Mr. Mallory will commit to Mr. Byington and will play at Vanderbilt. And it seems highly unlikely that Dr. Williams will hire Mr. Sanchez as our head coach.

But Iā€™m all for hoping we somehow land the kid anyway.

He might think of a pretty funny story on the 22nd. Hoo knows?

That rundown captures my view of it too. I donā€™t particularly put stock in one scenario more than the other, thatā€™s for the insiders to figure out, I just think there are multiple scenarios consistent with what we know.

Well theyā€™re just gonna get fans bitching for the rest of his tenure. I will certainly do my part. Itā€™s not a tenable situation. Every loss would be magnified by a million.

Itā€™s far more likely heā€™s just getting a bag and likes Byington/Vandy.

I just donā€™t see how it could possibly be UVA given the commitment date. Maybe weā€™ve let him under the hood about the candidates being considered. Maybe that along with a large financial commitment are enough to get him comfortable but he has so many other good options that it just seems hard to believe.

We are not hiring Ron Sanchez as our next head coach barring like an ACC tournament championship run and a Sweet 16 appearance. We have too many better options. And there is literally no smoke around keeping Ron other than Chance Mallory happening to decide he wants to commit in late March.

If we have a GM in place, then they may have been having discussions with Chance already

Guess it depends on how much ā€œfamilyā€ he wants around him.

There are no direct flights to Nashville from Charlottesville. And itā€™s an 8-hour drive. And because Vandyā€™s in the SEC, closest they come is Lexington (6:30) and Knoxville (5:15).

The other three schools make much more sense from a family perspective.

Perhaps heā€™s our version of Trent Perry, where the logic just doesnā€™t equate, but home is where the heart is.

I keep saying this but I think people are reading too much into the date. Heā€™ll bend if necessary.

Donā€™t worry, the Hokies I know have assured me their SEC invite is in the mail.
