Great question / i was SO skeptical, partly for just not wanting another talented HS guy that was so short and not an insane athlete, that p5 ball would be too much for him, offensively especially. BUT the dice roll on Chance that is merited, IMO, is what a complete alpha scoring dog he can be from the point, both wily inside/dribbling and from very deep. Think (hehe) Carson Edwards. Footnote is (especially in post Bennett era), i think we find out right away. If a talent like this translates to the major college ball, it probably happens right away, unless his body REALLY needs to be built up. Similarly, if a dud we may know right away. All this, IF uva is indeed the choice

I would exactly flip this.
Rohde on ball PG and Mallory off-ball would be dangerous as hell. Rohde is more of a natural floor general than Mallory, who is more of a natural bucket getter. Similar to how things were structured with Dai Dai, but imagine he had crazy range like Mallory. Problem is that may create some defensive challenges. But you slot Gertrude (or a defensive wing type) in as the third guard, then it gets intriguing.

I love Rohde’s heart and grit but he’s not a starting PG on a great or maybe even good team. Still gets bogged down w far too much dribbling and just can’t finish inside or do much in the way of pull-up jumpers. I hope he keeps improving, great strides esp second half of this season. But we need to ATTACK from the point and i can’t imagine Rohde leading a more frequently pushed fast break.

I probably missed it in the scrolling somewhere - what is the connection / history that would create this immediate recommit by Mallory with Odom on-board?
I assume basic recruiting history, but just curious if there’s more depth…

Chance Mallorys sister was on Odom’s staff last year? Or was she on Rhoades staff? Or like in the AD office

I have coached baseball for the last 15years in the Prep League in Richmond which takes me to a lot of basketball games to support my guys. Mallory is the best player I have seen in private schools during that time. I feel like ACC level guys should dominate at that level and Mallory does. He is a great scorer, is constantly moving/active, has a great feel for the game (led the league in rebounding as a junior) and takes over when he needs to. I think Mallory is a stud.

I think to me the best sign that Mallory is going to be a good player is his rebounding. It just shows a level of tenacity that will translate and drive him forward
