✂ Cuts from the Corner - 2024-25 Playing Time & Rotations

This is my second favorite combination so I wouldn’t be unhappy with this at all.

It really becomes a question of Murray or Power then. I tend to lean Power because of the improvement in size he’d bring to the team, his ability to get his shot off, and how it would let Saunders defend - but there’s a case to be made for Murray, too, especially if he’s improved as a defender.

Just want to quibble with the swagger part of this, and I know I’ve been a broken record on this. Taine has had the opposite of swagger. That’s the missing piece that few address in the Taine analysis (other than me, who over emphasizes it). Last year’s offense desperately needed another guy to “appear” and even in the games where Taine’s PT went up towards the end, his default was to disappear.

Why? What has to change this year to have that not be the case? Something in Taine or something in Tone or both? (And if both, how much?)

I have my theories but you’ve all heard them…

(To be clear, I’m speaking offensively. Cuts rightly points out his mediocrity or worse on D)

Like, folks like to look forward, fair enough. But our issues offensively were abundantly clear from the tip. November to mid March is many months. About the same as June to November.

Agreed. Taine’s usage has gone down (?!) from year to year, and he shot just about as many 3s per 100 possessions as Reece (note that this accounts for playing time differences). When you’re at 12% usage, you’re barely there on offense, and you aren’t exerting as much gravity as a shooting threat as you might hope a guy shooting over 40% could do.

So what percentage of Ames’ 3PA was from iso dribbling/pull-up and what percentage was from catch-and-shoot?

I have to infer this from rates of assisted 3P makes since I don’t have a Synergy account, but Torvik has it as 95.7% of his makes from three being assisted.

So essentially his makes came about when he was off-ball. Got it.

Yes. But that doesn’t say anything about his rate of attempts that were off-ball vs on-ball. I assume they correlate closely with the rate of assisted makes, but that’s an assumption for sure.

None of the candidates are talking about the issue that matter to the voters. #SynergyForAll

Honestly, more detailed play-by-play data for all might do the trick.

Mostly catch and shoot. When he put the ball on the floor to get to his shot it was mostly the midrange.

Great job Cuts. Always interesting and thought provoking. I too was glad to hear that you were high on Cofie. I don’t believe the talent level was very high that he played against but it seems to me he has all the tools to be really good. Looking forward to it
