Sene and Scott were the only bigs on that team with any experience. Harris was playing some 4, along with Sherrill.
Mitchell and Regan were true freshmen.

Easy now. I live in UES!
92nd and 3rd for my early NYC years. Anything south of 82nd was downtown for me
I find Fresh’s comment hilarious and true. This 2024-25 year was horrible. And is a year and team to forget about. It is mentally healthy to forget bad experiences and not dwell on them.
2024-2025 will also make for great trivia questions. Who many scholarship players didn’t transfer out? One; Name any players from that year? None. Name the 5 starters in any game? Still none. How many days before the start of the season did Coach Bennett quit?
Here’s looking forward to the 2025-2026 team and it being a team to remember !
Just gotta laugh at how it went down. Hurts too much if you really take it seriously.
Sorry but I find comments like our last season “was horrible” to be hyperbole to the max. IT WASN’T HORRIBLE!!! Horrible is B.C. going winless in the ACC a few years back or the Orioles losing more than 100 games several years in a row, or UVA football back in the early 70’s when I was there. UNC finished last place in the ACC a few years back. We finished middle of the pack this past season in our worst season in a long while
Please, get a major grip.!!!
Sub kenpom top 100 and sub .500 record is pretty bad for power 5. Definitely worse than mid
For any fellow sickos, UC-Irvine v UAB in the NIT is still available on the ESPN replay (maybe only on ESPN+? not sure).
Tillis (not the Center) covers Yaxel Landeborg. YL usually covers the center in the few minutes I watched.
I like this dude. He’s this Lawyer’s League looking dude with no height, no wingspan, no athleticism, looks like he enjoys cheeseburgers (who doesn’t!) and has never seen the inside of the Dragon’s Lair (@BDragon), but he can just straight ball. The kind of guy you want on your pick-up team. And he’s strangely effective on the much bigger, more athletic Landeborg.
He’s gonna be a fan favorite. Got some personality, too. I’m sold.
Will watch this tonight and report back! Thanks @haney
Yeah I mean we all watch what Miami, BC, FSU and Louisville have all had happen recently then act like we just had the worst ACC team of all time haha. You are correct.
Watched a bunch of the 2H, love him! He’s my favorite player on next year’s team. Hope he doesn’t decommit!
This rando dude Kyle Evans is also a legit rim protector. SoCal guy. Looks like he played volleyball like a Chase Budinger type. Doesn’t seem like he can do much else. But he’s 6-10 and can leap. Let’s sign as our 14-15th guy.
The ACC was also very bad last year. UVA would barely have won a game in the peak ACC. Didnt even get a postseason bid. Also got absolutely embarrassed against every good team (and several bad teams). Last year’s team was bad. Worse than every single team in the SEC, Big Ten, and Big 12.
Me too! A lot more than I did initially.
UC Irvine’s offense essentially ran through Tillis, and I can see why Odom wants him, especially with the elite catch and shoot options we’ll have.
He’s one of those players that makes an offense work. Great and willing screener, good shooter, and pretty incredible as a facilitator from the paint. He’s a tough to guard and he’ll either get mismatches to exploit when he’s switched on to someone smaller or find plenty of good kick out options.
Just an overall good player. Not a star, but someone who is really solid. Not worried at all about his height anymore. He looks taller than Saunders and isn’t as quick as Gardner but he’s a FAR more willing passer and a legit good 3 pt shooter.
@cuts is going to have a blast scouting this one.
Russell Turner did his old pal a real solid here
Yeah, he’ll have to adjust to this level of athleticism etc, but tbh, he’s already adjusting even at the Big West level, lol!
I’m honestly not sure how good he’ll be, given that adjustment, but he’s a fun player, true hooper. I think we’ll like him a lot
Clipped from the discord, but here’s a look at on/off splits for Tillis.
“TLDR: UCI averaged 112 points per 100 hundred possessions when he was on the court and only 97.1 when he was off the court.”
Credit: Tobias Blackjack (hope you’re a poster here lol)
Way too weedsy, but their best defense was the few minutes with Ujadeghle in (presumably for Tillis?) while playing with Leuchten, the center.
But once you get into small sample sizes, it’s hard to know, plus the on/off stuff can never account for player-specific adjustments.
Like, imagine we are playing Duke. Let’s say Cooper Flagg plays 30 minutes. We have given player A the defensive assignment because he’s a good defender. When Flagg gets a breather, Duke’s offense stagnates (again, just assume). When Flagg gets a breather, we put Player B in for Player A. The on/off numbers will make Player B look like a great defender.
Hard to say on defense for sure. I’m speaking anecdotally here but just in the few possessions I watched offensively, the difference was night and day. Had a few possessions in a stretch of the 1H against Chattanooga for example that ended in late shot clock contested jumpers because they couldn’t get anything going. Turner immediately subbed Tillis back in after the next break.
I wonder who that is shooting on his bro’s prior IG story. Looked tall/like a player but didn’t recognize.
