Of course no guarantee any of these names in the portal or that better options won’t be available to us. But vibe check, if these were the options today who are you taking for that 4 spot? (specific names are maybe irrelevant as opposed to the type of player they represent)
- TJ Power (stretch 4 with 3 years left, no production to point to but possible high ceiling skillset)
- Maliq Brown (Mobile athletic defender with 2 years left/Akil Atkins type at the 4 spot battled tested against ACC competition)
- Cade Tyson (Stretch 4 with 2 years left; proven at the midmajor level with brother who was all ACC and drafted/established 40% 3pt shooter at college level)
- Cam Christie (6’7 shooting wing who can play the 3 or the 4 with 3 years left. 40% from 3 and solid athleticism)

They have their own transfer portal target thread. This tweet was funny. The kid already has an agent who, through the tweet, is announcing the kid will probably grad transfer. College sports are beyond dead. Fossilized

See Im not alone in this. Also through this I now remember there was a kid we recruited a little, Taison Chatman, the guard who went to the pizza rolls school @tlgoudy knows in Minnesota and whose recruitment was big time NIL. Yeah that kid hasn’t done shit LOL. More banished than Gertrude here.
The portal basically reminds me of all the kids I get excited about and then completely forget about once it’s clear UVA won’t be the choice.

Also saw this on the Indiana board. Kid dropped 51 points, including the game winner. And of course their fans are all saying “MUST GET. Instate + 3pt shooting which is our biggest need”

Trilly Donovan has a $6 a month discord subscription and apparently he dropped a list of kids who there is smoke or chatter about entering the portal. Not subscribed and knowing would ruin the surprise.

On Nova, all 4 losses have been Q1s, 3 on the road (and home to UConn), but given that they are one of the most experienced teams in college basketball, I’m sure they were expecting more this season. They are kinda reliant on their guards with eligibility coming back or it’s going to be another portal-heavy season with that. I wonder if we have seen the limits of going all-in on the portal with Nova, Arkansas underperforming, GTown* not really being better after turning over their entire roster.
*I know they are a big rebuild project, but there was a lot of loose talk in the offseason about how quick Cooley was going to get them to being good with the aid of the portal.
UCLA and USC are something else…#5 and #6 in biggest drop from their preseason Torvik rating among high major teams, and USC pulling that off with the #9 most talented roster among high major teams (using whatever formula Torvik uses to capture talent level; HS recruiting rank composite I think?).

Can slide Power and Brown down 1 spot to the 4-5 at times if not right off the bat. (If you start TJ Power at the 4/5 then you probably have to start Bond at the 3. Reece, imrproved ballhandling McKneely, and even Power/Brown show playmaking potential and moments.).
Im on board with Power at the 3 @JoeBoxley . He’s more mobile than Hauser and you would have both Brown and Buchanan to compensate if needed.

Is TJP on anyone’s radar for a transfer? I mean, I know we would love it for all sorts of reasons but I have not read or heard of any intel putting him into the portal. Might he just decide to stick it out and bet on himself again? Also, does Tony take in-conference transfers? The next one will be the first.
