I actually don’t disagree with him- the ACC network likes to self sabotage, and not enough people stand up to Boo-nardi by capping the ACCs potential. If UVA wins out and wins the ACC tournament, meanwhile the teams ahead of us keep losing I think we have an argument of being a 2-seed among other things.
I completely understand the concern over the play the last several games. The next 4 are “get your mind right” games leading to conference and NCAA play. It’s the time of the year to try and kick things to a different level.
I think I just disagree with the premise. There’s no rhetorical battle to be won or lost with Lunardi.
I think the number of bids the ACC gets has nothing to do with what Luke Hancock or Boozer or Joel Berry says about us.
Honestly, if Kentucky can find themselves in the First Four convo again (instead of solidly in), not sure the committee could resist that matchup.
idk if i can either. That would be cool as hell to see them both fight on the edges of the tourney
Roanoke legends deserve respect
Speaking of, Louisville hung the “2013 - Coaches poll #1, Final Vote” banner this weekend. They are undefeated with that banner hanging.
All time favorite
They wont get in in the end with 0 Q1 wins. They have 5 Q2 wins and no bad losses, a decent NET in the 40s and decent results and predictive metrics. It is just what a bracketologist values, mediocre resume like UNC with not alot of good but not really any bad, or a resume like Clemson/Wisconsin/Arizona State that has more quality but also more bad and worse metrics. I think if UNC wins their last 4 they will be in with little doubt unless they lose a bad game at the ACCT. 3-1 would have them on the bubble but right there. 2-2 and they will likely have to win at least 1 Q1 game in the ACCT if not 2.
Blind resume comparison! (No real point to this, just couldn’t help but notice the similarity.)
Team A: NET 48. Quad 1: 0-8. Quad 2: 5-3. Quad 3: 5-0. Quad 4: 6-0.
Team B: NET 51. Quad 1: 1-10. Quad 2: 2-1. Quad 3: 6-0. Quad 4: 6-0.
Team A, as you’ve guessed, is UNC. Team B, as you didn’t guess, is the Virginia women’s team. (Also I deliberately left out the computer metrics that favor UNC in this comparison because of personal bias, and I do not regret it.)
The system in place to determine at-large teams is what it is. When it works to our favor or the leagues favor we dont complain. Everyone plays by the same rules. There is a bit of subjectivity in the seeding process and the selection process, but it is an objective process with regards to the data. The B1G/B12 win against quality non-con teams in Nov/Dec and their bad teams dont lose to scrubs and that is why they have their rankings, the bad ACC teams have lost to bad teams consistently lately and our top teams (outside of us and to a degree MIami) didnt win enough against good teams outside the league.
Part of it is that in this transfer portal era, some teams take longer to gel with all the new pieces. Thus they are much more prone to lose to teams they shouldnt in Nov/Dec. We saw that with UVA last year. It is what it is. I have always been a proponent of of playing 2/3 quality non-con games in mid conference season to make these metrics mean a little more. But i doubt the leagues will ever go to that model. You cant fairly value games in Feb/March over games in Nov/Dec you have to evaluate the whole season, esp since all the key non-con games are in Nov/Dec.
I think this is one of those things that sounds really good and logical. But the problem with it is when you throw non-con games in this time of year, teams don’t treat it the same. It turns into a chance for bubble teams to get cheap quality wins. Like the SEC/Big 12 Challenge was in late Jan. Oklahoma blows out an Alabama team that couldn’t have cared less about it.
Wasn’t it the COVID year where teams were negotiating last minute Feb/March non-con games? Or was that last year?
Kinda remember BYU in Vegas talks for the Hoos.
It was that 20/21 covid yr. Sae the Hoos play a 1 off agaisnt the Zags in Houston. All types of random games.
Was it Houston or Dallas or Ft Worth? Shit man all the same
I dunno might have been Dallas… it was in texas I remember that much.
Abilene woulda been perfect
Dickies Arena (Ft Worth). Always remember that name because my brain stopped developing at 14 years old
Louisville is on a quest to eliminate every ACC team from NCAA tourney
Just give them time they’ll find a way to Louisville it up
