Nine actually. 3 OL, 2 RB, 1 DE, and 3 DBs.

Only real losses out of spring were Steen to transfer and Monroe Mills and Jam Jackson to injury (Jam’s not formally announced, but there seemed to be a lot of pessimism about it). Would’ve liked Frakes to stick around as QB3, just to keep the two true freshmen clean, but is what it is. So yeah, net gain of let’s say five depth chart-worthy-ish guys.

I’ve got us at 94 scholarship guys right now. It’s kinda nuts this many guys are signing on with playtime time going to be so competitive to get.

Maybe we’re using our injury frequency as a marketing tool. “See how many guys get hurt, you’re definitely gonna get a chance to play!”

The sad, sad tale of how UNC, or rather its 73yo FB coach and his 24yo GF cocked up the HARD KNOCKS deal. (Apologies if this should have gone in the schadenfreude thread, but I couldn’t find the schadenfreude thread):

How down bad were we in the secondary? Seems like we have a ton of vets and young guys now. I thought we only needed 1-2

The defensive backfield was severely depleted this spring. Prior to this flurry of commits, we were down to 13 scholarship DBs, and that’s before you factor in Jam Jackson’s worrying spring injury, Antonio Clary’s inability to make it through a season, and the fact that four of those are true freshmen. Our base defense is a 4-2-5 so we need a lot of depth there, and have carried 18 DB’s each of the last two seasons; Bronco’s last season we carried 20!

Going into the spring, the baseline need was two additional; replacing Jam made it at least three adds needed. As of today, with yesterday afternoon’s Da’Marcus Crosby addition, we’ve added four this spring cycle bringing us to 17 total. It’s barely enough, but it’s a marked improvement over where we were two weeks ago.

Adding: Even with all these pickups, the corners are still questionable. Prevard is stepping up from the MEAC, Robinson was a 2nd stringer at UC, Karnley was a 2nd stringer put up paltry stats across 10 games at Arizona, and Charles was a 2nd stringer at Tennessee; need a bunch of these guys to prove they’re up to a much bigger task here, as well as Dre Walker finally delivering on the promise he showed as a true freshman. Jam was really the only corner we had coming into the spring who you could feed really good about, the worst one to get injured.

Safeties look good on paper, though. Neal and Crosby are both solid transfer pickups, and Hardy, Clary, and Minter are all playable depth.

Why is this sad? Good for them. Many people love bigger than life personalities like Kardasians, Sanders, etc. They are monetizing their fame. Doing a great marketing job too. Smart.

It’s not sad. It’s amusing. Half the folks who watch those kinds of tabloid reality shows do so to mock the ridiculous personalities they portray. Yes I understand those stars are often laughing all the way to the bank. At the end of the day, it’s none of our business, nor does it materially affect us, nor is it illegal, for Belichek to have a girlfriend young enough to be his granddaughter. If it were the HC of, say, Cal State Fullerton, I’d roll my eyes and forget about it. But it’s (a) an NFL HOF’er and (b) the HC of one of our biggest rivals, so as such it’s fair game to point and laugh.

Didn’t Karnley start 8 games last year?

Good catch, 6 starts actually according to UofA’s official stats.

That said, put up pretty paltry numbers. 16 tackles on the year across 10 games / 6 starts, and not a single PBU, INT, or other statistic registered. The Miami folks said he bailed on them after spring ball because he couldn’t crack the 2-deep there.

He is only a rising 3rd year, so hopefully there’s growth and improvement still to be realized and we’re the ones that get it.

Yeah I put more stock in the fact that Michigan, Auburn, and Miami (+ others) were seriously after him.

Also I’m extremely high on Prevard. His tape is awesome. And he’s a much bigger and physical dude than I assumed when he committed.

They are all better than we had on the roster and they all have P4 experience. The secondary is on solid ground now. It would have been shaky entering with what we had and the 1st years.

Really think Wyatt is a starter (somewhere) if healthy. Obviously that’s a big if. Wiggenton will likely battle too.

Yeah but you gotta guess at who they’ll unseat to make that assertion. Wyatt’s got a lot of rust to shake off, as does Wigenton, all five guys I listed as starters were (near-)full-season starters last year.

I think Wyatt is just a better player than Unamba. Maybe that’s not true anymore given the rust, but he’s more talented.
