I don’t think he’s that good

I thought @Hooandtrue invited him

I like him but I’ve not see him play against strong competition. But he looks good

Why don’t they make the whole plane out of Ty Davis?

Hoos had 30 points off turnovers … I can’t ever remember us doing that …

The defense was agressive. Confrontational was the word I thought watching the way the back court atracked ballhandlers. They were also very handsy when providing help on the double in the post.

In the past Uva teams are sound defensively but rarely do I remember them pushing the issue to generate turnovers. Frankiln was extremely handsy

The defense was aggressive, but I do wonder if GT’s turnovers were more the result of their offensive incompetence than Virginia’s D. They were really bad, and many of their turnovers seemed a bit unforced.

GT was among national leaders in fewest TOs per game. It was either our pressure or just one of those games where crap happens.

14 of their 23 turnovers were Hoo steals … so it definitely wasn’t unforced.

As is typical, the defense and turnovers fed off each other— UVA’s aggressiveness led to GaT turnovers, which increased UVA’s aggressiveness, then GaT got rattled, then a lot more turnovers until the feedback loop was finally interrupted.

I don’t recall GT throwing the ball away. The Hoos actually did more of that. I saw a lot of guards ripping the ball away. I’m sure the agression and the big deficit caused GT to press and make more mistakes

GT did make a few stupid turnovers like we always do but most of it was being aggressive on defense. Franklin in particular really played hard and the result was it was a very fun game to watch especially with the 3s falling again

And, this brings up another topic. Even when Franklin isn’t hitting his 3s, he does so much more for the team. His energy and his hustle are fantastic. This was true last year, too. Because he arrived with a reputation as a shooter, I suspect that there were a few who were disappointed in his play. Nonetheless, he brings so much to the table for this team. I really hope he decides to exercise his option for a fifth year at UVa.

Just got back from a week in the jungles of Belize, so I only just got to watch the two games today.

Albany: With the caveat of having seen the scores for both this and the GT game prior to watching, I thought there was less to be hand-wringing about than the game thread did. With full benefit of hindsight, I thought that it offered a good opportunity to experiment with a bunch of lineups while resting Reece :bangbang:. In addition, IMK, Dunn, and Murray got some good opportunities. I think Murray has probably sealed his fate for the rest of the season. The other two got valuable experience in a low-pressure environment that I think carried over into the next game.

GT: Good road win against a team that is not good, but is also not a pushover. The team showed again just how good they can be when they can hit a few threes. But the biggest takeaway is just how important Reece :bangbang: is for this team–even at less than 100 percent. Just having two ball handlers and one more threat from deep make this team soooo much better.

Bad: Kadin and BVP are both still literally hit or miss. Agree with the sentiments that Kadin needs to be able to demand the ball and then take it strong to the rim for this team to be elite. Also seemed to have been much better at staying vertical and not getting pump-faked in the air earlier in the season. BVP mostly needs to hit some shots.

Good: IMK getting more aggressive about shooting and driving. Everyone having active hands on defense. BVP taking two charges. 4 guys hitting multiple threes. Armaan playing with confidence and edge.

Pitt on the road will be a dogfight–no matter what the metrics say. But a performance like yesterday’s will win it.

Yeah if you view Armaan as a 3-point specialist then he’s bad, but if you see him as “all-around journeyman player” he’s good for the team. And I’d like to see more of him and IMK on the floor at the same time, especially with Reece at PG, three guys who can either shoot or drive.

You all do realize Armaan is shooting 39.7% from 3 this season, 40% in December so it’s not like it’s all from early on. I had to look it up thinking maybe he’s worse than I was thinking after reading through this haha The issue is his 2% has fallen way off, down to 39% from 49% last year.

Armaan have some Richard Morgan in him maybe

I feel like he has gotten craftier finishing at the rim on drives too

Armaan has been very good

His biggest problem is his 2 point % is way down this year. A good bit lower than any other time in his career. I’ll take the trade, but hopefully that picks up some if he’s going to shoot that many.
