I think NBL has just put a lot of resources into their “Next Stars” program to be an attractive destination for guys like that. Just this year, they have Sarr, Klintman, Hukporti, AJ Johnson, that kid from UC Riverside, etc. I think the focus for guys like that is partially money but more a good avenue for development. I think that’s the lure of the NBL.
I’m not really sure why they focus on that, but it’s probably a way to develop their overall league. They had LaMelo and RJ whoever prior to Covid, and I guess they are trying to reinvigorate post-Australia’s draconian Covid travel restrictions.
From the impression I’ve gotten from looking at hawks reporters’ twitters, they just didn’t wanna risk anything in the preseason.
But Dre has been much more disappointing of an NBA player than I though he would be. I still hold out hope that now that Snyder is ending the Trae Young ballhog era Dre can find the guy he was for 20 games 2 years go (before he got hurt) when he looked like a future all star
Watched some of the Pistons/ Thunder tonight. Really weird seeing Joe Harris in a Detroit uniform (6pts, 2-3 from three). But … he is making about $20m this year.
