🏀 Hoos in the Pros 2023-24

Obviously COVID messed up the practice & game schedules the whole season, but even in normal times, that was the weirdest roster mix we’ve ever had IMO.

An NBA frontline, and all could shoot, with an undersized backcourt that couldn’t shoot much at all.

Remember how good Gonzaga was that year? It was the No Covid Protocols offense

That was Few’s best team. The absolutely boat raced the Hoos in that game in Texas. I still haven’t forgiven Jay Huff for being Timme’s b%tch.

I also agree with @GulfCoastHoo, that was such a strange lineup. They were as talented as anyone UVa has put out, but they did not compliment each other’s strengths at all. It was the first of the misshaped lineups we’ve seen routinely since the Ship.

Kihei being benched for two games as the starter was also wild.

Man I forgot about that. Did we ever get an explanation? Sounded like an academic issue.

Last night Trey had 27 points on only 7 made FGs

He’s really stepped up with Brandon Ingram being out the last couple of weeks. Trey was hurt the beginning of this season, but would expect him to be a top contender for Sixth Man of the Year, next season.

One of the Athletic writers (who used to work for the Bucks) does an exercise regularly where he puts the top 80 players or so into tiers based on “championship equity” (basically ability to contribute to a championship-contending team), and Trey made the top-80 for the first time in his recent update:

He is in Tier 4, which has a lot of elite role players.

Like clockwork, Hawks are once again in 9-10 play in game. New coach; new scheme (right?); same result. (And no, I didn’t follow this year so no idea if there is some good reason for this…)

I’ve followed the NBA for over 40 years since a kid, and the Hawks might be the most “mid” team over that time. Rarely a serious contender, rarely terrible. Just always stuck somewhere in the 35-45 win range.

I was a little off, but it is at least their 3rd straight in the play-in

They were missing Trae Young for like 20-30 games this season.

Only two trips to the conference finals fort the Hawks since 1968. It’s hard to be a Hawks fan.

You could argue that’s what helped them get into the play-in. through the first 10 games without Trae they were above .500 and I think that trend continued down the stretch.

Nice blurb on Sam on ESPN’s write up on the NBA playoffs discussing the Celtics:
