I’m hoping for 65%. Dunn certainly has the resources, but I have no idea how much he works on it or prioritizes it. But even if Anya doesn’t improve, I still subscribe to @HoozGotNext POV above.
Oh yeah I’m all on board for Anya just to clarify my position.
I’d love to see some improved 3P% even if on low volume. I just don’t expect much with FT shooting unless we hear he reworked everything.
Is this for Grünloh? Is he majoring in literature? ![]()
I was waiting for you to chime in on that one! ![]()
I feel like those that improve their 3 are already decent FT shooters and there’s something to work from. Whereas not the same if you suck st FTs
There’s moderate correlation there but not always the case. They are different motions.
Bruce Bowen was a 40% 3P% and 57% FT%.
Ryan Dunn last year 33% 3P% and 49% FT%
Giannis last year 33% 3P% and 65% FT%
Joe Harris actually was a pretty poor free throw shooter. Shot 64% from the line but 43 3pt% his last full year.
I still don’t expect 3P shooting from Anya, but if he could get to 30% on low volume woul be nice. That’s making a shot every third game.
Maybe it was just misery in Missouri?
He was over 50% at Brown FT and 11/35 on threes there….
Also he was sick at St Louis.
People forget that when guys transfer to Virginia they become better players…. All the time. For everyone. In every case.
By the way 31.4% on threes his first 2 years is better than Hall, TDR and Mallory last year in ACC games.
We literally didn’t have any great 3 point shooters in Acc games last year… except Grünloh at 39%
Next best was Jacari at 36.8% which is ok - not even sure if it’s good? Very very very mediocre for a teams best non center shooter.
By way of comparison we had 4 guards in 2025 who were better than that. Ames, Taine, Rohde, IMac All above 39% in Acc play in 2025
Mein Pferd für der Flügelspieler!
Could he perhaps be an Isiah Wilkens type of contributor? Not a plus athlete but great defender and anchor but little offense contribution other than screens etc..
That’s who I’ve been thinking of in terms of contribution. In terms of play style he’s slightly more Braxton Key / Jayden Gardner.
Speaking of, I had recorded the combine scrimmages yesterday and watched a little last night to catch a bit of Ugo. I can’t remember who it was but there was a tall white dude on one of the teams who was legit doing a jump shot at the FT line. I’m not sure I’ve actually ever seen anyone leave the ground with both feet while shooting FTs before that
That’s my hope. A poor man’s Wilkins or Key
I actually did that in high school a few games when I had a mental block at the line for some reason - made it seem like a regular in rhythm shot - less thinking
Nick Martinelli?

Yeah, must be martinelli. Don’t remember if he did that against us:

What’s hilarious is that I highlighted this to translate it and got the Italian—which made me laugh out loud: Il mio cavallo per l’ala! Which literally translates: my horse for the wing. But I could figure out what you meant ![]()
Yep, that’s who it was. Thanks @haney !
Hal Greer used to do that back in the day (Philadelphia Sixers, IIRC). He claimed when he was practicing his jump shot, he was practicing his free throws, too.
