Best moment of the seasonā¦.same reaction.
Iād love to know for a fact too.. he did start the second half but then came out and never was put back in
In a way, my favorite moment from this āseasonā was the first few weeks after we signed Odom, and he put together a team from nothing, wham-bam-bam (while dealing with donors and fans and everything else). Masterful job, that was when I knew we hired the right guy for this era.
From the actual season, the Miami game was the best⦠plus Ugoās block party against Duke in the ACCT finals.
Like others have said, I also really, really appreciate the work Odom did to make this team come together not only with each other but with the university. Going to football games, singing the Good Old Song, and so on. He did everything he could to make them community members rather than āmercenaries.ā Thatās very important to me.
Wouldnāt be the first time a player was injured during a R32 game against Tennessee leading to a close loss.
My wife and I were at the Greenbrier games as well, met a lot of the players, and had the exact same feeling. They all were all very personable and came across as high character people. It made it so much easier to cheer for them over the course of the season. Since then, weāve run into some of them in town, and itās been the same.
Last night in Philadelphia, we left the UConn/UCLA game midway through the first half, and on the way out, we ran into some of the players in the concourse with their friends and family. They were obviously very disappointed, but we congratulated them on a great season. They were appreciative and Malik even gave my wife a hug. She loved that. Will miss this group.
100%
We didnāt have another Sam, but we had plenty of good ways to play when he sat. We didnāt have a quality way to play when TDR sat against good opponents.
Just coming to say in recap how much I enjoyed this season and this group of guys. I am so appreciative of how engaging and fan friendly they were. Coach Odom did a great job of finding great basketball players and exceptional human beings. Malik made a fan for life when he stayed back one game to sign autographs for a bunch of kids (my son included) and both of my kids instantly loved watching Jacari play 100 mph. And Dallin Hall is the kind of guy you want by your side. I would love to see him on our bench as a GA! And is there anyway we can push for a fifth year on Ugo?! Haha.
What I am saying is I would have loved to see more of this group. If we could have I would 100% wanted to run it back with these exact guys. They are Hoos for life! And thank you LRA for being a great group as well. This board just makes the season that much more fun!
Hopefully Silas is a better matchup as a backup 4. Tillis had some good plays but his injuries + athletic limitations made him a poor fit to go against the top end talent of e.g., Duke, UNC.
I loved having Tillis on the team in terms of how he helped to bond everyone and I think that isnāt just feels - that has a real on-court impact.
He also made some pretty sick passes over the season. His shooting got less consistent after the re-injury⦠but, before and after that, it really was the defense that made it such a stark difference, yup.
Found this old Oct 1 tweet by Jon Rothstein. That was, indeed, our starting lineup. Trying to recall if there was any variation in starters this season.
I think only once or twice for injury or suspension/doghouse. Other than that, completely static, I think
His shooting also felt replaceable in the lineups because TDR, Sam, Jacari, or even Malik could go on a heater any given night. What we really need was someone to at least try and challenge the Caleb Wilsonās of the world.
Again on the shooting, we needed the shooting to let TDR operate down low. But because Tillis and TDR never played together, Tillis spreading the floor didnāt do much for us because we didnāt have another true post player operating down low.
They tried to make it work but I was happy when they turned the page on SF Tillis minutes.
Yeah think it was just the first VT game. Sam sat for disciplinary reasons.
That was the starting lineup for every game except the 1st VT game that Tillis started and played 39 minutes for Lewis, but Lewis still played 24 minutes. I canāt remember why. White was out that game, so Gertrude got 12 minutes too.
Ugo actually did mention trying for a 5th year in one of the post-game interviews on Virginia Sports radio, but said he had no actual information about that. I canāt imagine itās actually possible, and I think it was more wishful thinking and speaking to how much he enjoyed being at UVA and with this team/staff
This season was so different from the past years (Parkhill to present) of rabid Hoo fandom. NIL, the complete roster turnover, ACC being down, new coach- just a lot to digest. But have to say this season was OUTSTANDING. Biggest highlight was attending Wright State and seeing these kids FINALLY break the NCAAT spell. Close second the ACCT overall- close loss to Duke notwithstanding.
Other highlights
Going to the NC Central game and watching the team getting to learn one another
Texas blowout
Jacarmy and his zeal for playing the game
UGO in ACCT, Grünlohās potential and Chance Mallory showing that he will eclipse K Clark as best UVA ālittle manā.
Really look forward to next season, unlike last summer/fall. Thought that I would return to being football first fane, especially after last Fall. But Odom has what it takes to put the Hoos back intom the National Championship hunt.
Ok, now we need someone here to explain to us how this actually is possible because of some loophole, and in fact, very likely to happenā¦
Does Odom have one last coaching show or something similar? Would be great to have some overall thoughts on the season, for public consumption, after a few days to think it over.
Heās leveraging the loophole of asking the NCAA āpretty pleaseā
