Auburn/Indiana type schools will get 12s rather than High Point
High Point is a 13 rather than Hofstra
Hofstra is a 14 rather than NDSU
NDSU is 15 rather than Furman
Furman is a 16 that gets through playin rather than PVAM
By KenPom ranking all seed lines 12-16 get stronger because essentially everyone gets slid down four spots
My wild idea would be expand even further to 96 but guarantee auto bids to conference champs and tourney champs. So at max 64 auto bid (32 conferences) and 32 at large teams. Bubble expands if regular season champ wins conference tourney as well.
Wouldnāt want it to come to this but if weāre going to expand, at least get me more mid majors and low majors, and have me glued to champ week where every game matters for the bubble.
I like this idea but Iām so ready for 2035 when itās discovered the SWAC rigged their conference tournament against the regular season winner for the extra NCAA Tournament units
If we go to 96, Iād advocate for all 32 conference champs to get a bye and the 64 at large teams play the extra round. Make winning your conference mean something.
lol that was the biggest flaw I kept going back and forth on was is the extra unit worth more than the glory of a title. Doubt a team would throw a game but I didnāt think about conferences stacking the decks - at least that would be a fun scandal!
So now you have to finish as the best 11 seed to avoid a play in. Number 41 or better. Used to be the second best 12, number 46. Not that it matters since no team that far down is going to win it all anyway.
I donāt know if those Tuesday/Wednesday games have much value. I read that the NCAA is projecting to be just a little above break even. Just enough to cover the extra travel costs, arena hosting costs and additional distribution units to the schools.
I think thatās true for the current TV cycle since the networks have the leverage because the NCAA is the one changing the contract, but the NCAA thinks they might be able to get a better deal next cycle
So if a kid never graduates from HS, starts college at 17, does he get two free years before he turns 19. I mean, is a HS diploma really necessary to play pro basketball?
