New 2021 offer out

Class of 2021 forward DaRon Holmes of Millennium (AZ) picked up a scholarship offer today, he announced on Instagram.

Coach Soderberg visited with Holmes recently, and Bennett saw him play multiple times in July including at Team USA mini-camp. This offer is a clear signal that UVA is now prepared to recruit a versatile forward in 2021 with Jaemyn Brakefield in the rear view.

The 6’9 Holmes has taken recent visits to Marquette, Arizona, and Kansas. Other offers include Oklahoma, Texas Tech, USC, Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest.

Virginia currently has up to four scholarships available by 2021. Holmes is the 6th player to be offered a scholarship joining Trevor Keels, Max Christie, Carter Whitt, Efton Reid, and Caleb Furst.

Bouncy, to say the least. Positionally, I’m guessing he’s not a pure big, and therefore is filling a different need than Reid and Furst?

It’s all subtle differences these days. Mostly boils down to who they can defend. In his case, 3 positions easily. At worst, he’s a Mamadi style 4/5 but his rapidly developing perimeter skills could make him the prototypical modern 4 man. That’s what they have in mind, need someone along that line by 2021. Same spot they were recruiting Henry Coleman/Jaemyn Brakefield in.

With him being from Arizona and already taken visits to Kansas and Arizona this doesn’t seem like an offer that we should get too invested in.
