Utah State is like VCU. Itās a job that is set up for success. Itās why I havenāt been terribly impressed with Odom. The results heās gotten seem like ones many coaches could get.
Yeah Iām all in on him. The Youngstown state stuff is really impressive. 43 years old.
Iām a NO on McCollum.
āWe play a slower tempo because we donāt take bad shots, and we wonāt take bad shots,ā McCollum said. āWe refuse to take them. And so it naturally slows the game down.ā
He also says heād rather his team get a shot clock violation than take a mediocre shot.
Incredible anecdote showing that he might have the Bennett-ian skill of getting others to quit their jobs:
The final piece needed was a shooter. McCollum had one at Northwest Missouri State but thought he was finished playing. Mitch Mascari had his MBA after five years in Maryville and had accepted a job as a credit analyst in asset management at First Trust Portfolios in Wheaton, Ill. He was supposed to start in two weeks, but after McCollum accepted the Drake job, Mascari started thinking maybe he too wanted his shot at D-I and put his name in the transfer portal on the final day it was open. McCollum called him right away, and Mascari asked McCollum what he thought he should do.
Suck it, First Trust Portfolios, no junior analyst for you. Also Mascari did the thing we all joke about and used the COVID year to get an actual advanced degree.
Sounds like he is trying to one-up Tony. Letās move on!
An MBA from NW Missouri st is like going to a 5th yr of High School. (Dont tell my wife i said that)
Also, does it sound like this guy is the kind of person to leave anywhere after 1 season?
Why did it take so long for McCollum to get a Division I job?
āIām a slow trigger by nature,ā McCollum said, ābecause I evaluate every decision quite a bit.ā
In the last few years, McCollum was in the mix for several low- and mid-major openings, but he was always hesitant to move his family. Drake was a job heād always eyed ā heās originally from Iowa, and itās a program with a winning history in a strong league ā but it still took him five days to accept after it was offered. āWe had a good setup,ā McCollum said. āAnd, you know, your culture doesnāt necessarily travel.ā
Dude is a Midwesterner for life. Heās basically never lived more than a few hours from home. Itās honestly surprising he left NW always thought heād be a lifer there.
Hopefull learn spreadsheets atleast
Efficiency is more important than pace. Be fast. Or be slow. Just be efficient.
No need to rush away from all aspects of the Tony model.
Jerrod Calhoun
Jayden Reid
Mason Falslev
Isaiah Coleman
Elijah Saunders
Jacob Cofie
Andrew Rohde 6th man

Mallory

Sadiq White flipped with a bag
Anthony Robinson
Carter Lang
Kareem Stagg flipped from Georgia and redshirt since he is young for 2025.
(Assuming Blake goes back west, Power goes to Boston College, McKneely Kentucky bound, and Dai Dai bounces with Sanchez gone/more stable situation. And Bliss gone but maybe not hopefully. Still a Bliss truther until the reality hits)
Who is Isaiah Coleman? Alsoā¦Tucker Anderson, after learning that @Hooandtrue left him off of his dream roster
Multi-skilled guards and dudes in the front court. Donāt have the patience for anything else to be honest.
Yeah this has me convinced. If Fran waits a couple years to retire heāll be the next Iowa coach. And theyāll follow our lead in loving what he does as it translates to win.
Jayden Reid coulda been ours. We got blessed with Bliss
Weāll have both. Itāll be a New Jersey takeover at the guard spot. Send Mallory up to live with you for the summer and play blacktop pick up
We donāt want him trust me. Heās not going to win the recruiting battles you need to win in this region/level
Tony was not supposed to either
I mean⦠did he?
