Save the long stuff for here, like me

This made me do some more research… in July DeVries did an interview saying that he isn’t a guy who’s just going to chase the next big job, he wants to be somewhere where he knows his family can be happy and the program has support. But on the flip side of that it was also mentioned he had just signed an extension with Drake before accepting the WVU job…

Bottom line we gotta impress the fam.

Haha. No. But I think Cofie & Sharma are both going to be really nice players in the future.

Head of the Iowa NIL Collective on a message board said if McCaffery retires DeVries is their top realistic choice. DeVries an Iowan by birth.

Assume in this scenario Calhoun then gets the WVU job if he turns down Cincinnati

Yeah his brother was also a big time football player at Iowa. Big question is is Fran actually going to retire haha. Also there are a ton of very good coaches with semi ties to Iowa

I think it’s gonna be a situation of Iowa giving Fran an ultimatum. ā€œWe’re gonna give you the opportunity to retire and save your dignity, otherwise we’re firing youā€.

Fran is great but it really feels like his time there has ran stale.

Still make Darian say no first. UVA a higher level job than Iowa with a history of paying better. If family likes it…

… also we managed to keep Tony from ever going to Wisconsin so maybe I have false confidence in our ability to beat the home team

If Ratcliffe is going by Hootie, Cotten has to be Footie

I bet the Iowa State success is speeding up Fran’s exit too. They shattered the myth that this is as good as it gets in corn country.

Yup completely agree. Otz being Twony Bennett has to put pressure on Iowa’s AD to move on and see what’s out there. Especially when you got guys like DeVries and McCollum potentially at your disposal.

How are you supposed to get creative with guards this bad? I mean let’s be honest, if UVA wants to get back to 2014-2019 level, they need to recruit over most of the backcourt. Perhaps I-Mac stays in a reduced role, but he’s pretty much a one trick pony. I think Sharma has a future too.

Frontcourt needs some immediate help too, but I think some of the current guys will develop into good players. You can see some growth in some of them in the last few weeks.

Well you could run different sets for starters. That includes on defense. Zone looks, presses… on offense you could certainly play different personnel… how many times have we seen Saunder Blake Cofie (or ARob) together? Or try to ignite the offense with 4 guard lineups?

We have scored 70 points exactly once since Thanksgiving and have the most losses at this point in the season since the 69-70 season (!!)

I was advocating for Ron early. I even said he could potentially earn the extension during the exam break with the right results. But none of that happened and his stubbornness to bend is becoming more and more unpleasant to watch by the day…

They’re about to hit the easy part of the schedule. 6 of next 7 games are against teams with single digits wins. Hopefully this will be more enjoyable the next few weeks…

Edit to make 6 of 7. Even easier than I thought on first look…

Cyclones have an up & down history. They have actually been that 2 to 4 type seed thing before. Small sample size, but Otz is crushing it so far.

Yeesh. I didn’t realize we were broaching historically bad territory.

One of my greatest hopes is that the next coaching regime can stop with the historic sucking. Like ā€œfirst 1 seed to lose to 16ā€, ā€œfewest points scored in a X game since Xā€, ā€œfirst team to win a championship and fail to X since Xā€ all that stuff. I’m over it! If you’re going to suck, just suck normally! Please.

No … just letting it kid longer

Also I feel like one son transferring out and another one committing elsewhere (both to Butler) is maybe a sign of some sorts? He’s probably itching to camp out in Hinkle and watch his boys (though not sure if they will overlap).

I think the vast majority of UVA fans agree with his message about character. The issue with his tweet is that he’s gotten some positive notoriety because of his past tweet about how to improve football coupled with his NIL support, which he certainly deserves, but now has decided to lecture the ā€œcommonā€ UVA fan. I had never heard of this guy before that initial tweet about football and I’m quite confident that UVA would survive without his money, though I hope he continues to give it.

We have a relatively tame fanbase, as evidenced by virtually no noticeable outcry after his high character football coach returns for season 4, despite 3 prior terrible seasons. He scrolls through the dregs of Twitter and claims that ā€œmanyā€ UVA fans don’t think Sanchez deserves a chance. He’s just totally off base.

I have no issue with anyone who thinks that Sanchez should get another season as head coach. I felt the same way until multiple games into this season. But invoking your ā€œbusiness personā€ experience as grounds for educating other fans about their opinion regarding a coaching transition is absolutely pathetic and embarrassing for him.

Donate your money because you love UVA and shut up.

I agree with almost all of what you just said. I’ll go a little different in that I like him being vocal, I just don’t agree with him here.

I like a ā€œbig timeā€ donor being a little vocal. No clue how big he is but he has multiple NIL athletes represent his brand, which I’m assuming isn’t cheap. I like having a face to the money… I think for most it’s easier to hop on board when you can see and know someone gives a damn.
