🏀 Next Basketball Head Coach Speculation Thread

I will never doubt our administration’s ability to talk themselves into doing the perceived “right” or “respectable” thing over what’s actually best for an athletic program. Thats why I chose non-zero instead of zero.

My guy, the last time UVA walked off the court against VaTech, it was a 75-41 beatdown. I don’t think we reached 20 in the first half.

Virginia in November and Dec.

Virginia since January 1

What does that have to do with anything? Yes VT’s performance last year with a completely different roster should have bearing on us losing at home last night to them for the first time in five years. Thank you for that poignant point.

Now please go into detail about how you think Ron’s coaching this year has been “excellent” for this 10-12 basketball team, and how marked the improvement has been since non-conference play.

Here’s what I got on trend report, using Torvik:
Overall: (O/D/T) 163 / 124 / 128
Last 10: 138 / 216 / 173
Last 5: 80 / 226 / 134
Nov/Dec: 164 / 61 / 96

So it looks like the offense has gone from bad to not good, and the defense is going from not good to very bad. There’s a slight trend down because the defense is sooo bad.

My opinion on if Tony Bennett was coaching this team: I think he’d quit in October and the team would be fighting to go to the ACC-T. I mean, I don’t have the biggest brain here, but I think I can describe the actual reality we are living in…

Exactly…the odds of it are very low but that’s why I didn’t check zero.

I went slightly higher mostly because I think out of respect and decency Ron will be considered with the actual candidates. Even if we narrow that down to 9 + Ron the odds would be 10% haha. I’m assuming the actual candidate pool (meaning once vetted, actual serious viable options) will be less than that, meaning probability for Ron would go up.

I originally voted for 10-50%, because I think I’d have it around 10-15% chance. In case we go on some miracle run to end the season, or there’s an undercurrent of donors who really want him to get the job that grows bigger and bigger.

Otherwise the results just aren’t gonna get him there. We can argue about whether or not he ‘deserves’ a better shot but plain and simple he’s gonna be judged on this season alone.

75-41. With 2 NBA players in our starting lineup.

Ok no seriously what the actual fuck are you arguing here lmao. I feel like we’re talking about two completely different things.

Why do I feel like this thought process pervades our big money donors lmao

It’s called The Virginia Way. Honor over winning. Aka self-delusion.

Arguing about who sucked worse against Tech is fun or whatever but what I wanna know is would Ron have played Jay Huff more in 2019? Depending on his answer there he might still have a fighting chance…

Ron would have gotten T’d up in the Michigan State game, Teven was fouled goddammit.

Would Ron have played the next year’s DPOY against Adreian Payne in the 2H when Gill got hurt? If so, I will publicly support removing the interim tag.

LOL. I mean we are on here everyday trying to psych ourselves up about hires like Byington, Calhoun, Smart, Odom, etc.

Would Landesberg have still been on the team under Ron? Dammit I need answers

I don’t think Harambe would’ve died if Ron was the coach then.

When we were on our natty run, a lot of people said ridiculous things like “if we win this, I will never complain again blah blah blah”

I never made any of these silly promises and we still won anyway.

And this… this is the exact reason that I’m the eternal optimist now. Can’t go back on my word. Mine was “if we win this, I will never complain about UVA sports again”
