Byington has more than scraps & he’s getting his ass kicked in SEC play.

I like Byington. Just because there are connections, I don’t think he’s a realistic hire for UVA. I don’t know how much he makes at Vanderbilt, as it is a private school and that info isn’t public. That said, Vanderbilt has to report the salaries of its five highest-paid employees on a yearly Form 990 tax document. The numbers for 2024 will not be available until the spring of 2026. However, Jerry Stackhouse was making over $4 mil in 2022.

I would think it certainly keeps him there vs. Blacksburg.

lol - why would any Hoo fan pay for content this season??? Inconceivable!

Because I like college hoops and the good stuff costs $$

4-5 is ā€œgetting his ass kickedā€ ??

It’s year 1 for him in a historically good year for a conference. There are 9 ranked teams in his conference, and 4 of his 5 losses are to ranked teams. He’s doing pretty well in SEC play IMO.

I subscribe to Eamonn so saw that. Also if you read his first bubble watch last week he mentioned VCU’s paltry 312th ranked non-conference schedule, so it wasn’t just Seton Hall.

4-5. All 4 wins were by narrow margins. 2 wins against SEC teams with a 1-17 combined league record.

4 double-digit losses. 1 loss by 9 pts to Mizzou in a game which was never close, with Mizzou gaining a 17 pt 1st half lead and coasting to a 9 pt win. Embarrassing loss to a mediocre Oklahoma team where his Commodores were outscored 61-27 in the 2nd half.

Plenty more losses to come.

That’s the real problem. The fanbase is stupid.

It is what it is. Covid wiped out one tourney. UVA choked a win away vs Furman.

There were a lot of wins packed in the last 6 years. 2014-2019 results probably aren’t realistic.

UVA probably isn’t going to be hiring a coach that has proven they can build and sustain a winning program at a P5 level.

There’s an odd doomerism to your Ron boosterism.

ā€œTony was an odd anomaly in the long history of futility of UVa hoops.ā€

Eh, okay. You and @jphat007 could do a nice seminar on this. (Sorry for the stray JP Hat)

ā€œAny of the likely choices are no great shakes and I’m not at all impressed.ā€

It seems to me we are discussing a lot of nice options here.

Maybe I’m just a hopeless optimist …

Doomerism? How so?

I was like, damn Haney. It’s interesting, I don’t think we’re gonna get back to TBs results pre or post natty personally and he’s the greatest thing that has or likely will happened to UVA basketball, but I’m 100% out on Ron. He ain’t TB and retaining him would bring several years of pain for our program if not worse. All in my opinion of course. I’m on team blow it up.

I’m picking up a nobody who is good would come here, and any of the likely choices who might come here, would not be good vibe. Thus making Ron the pick.

Sorry if I’m wrong.

Bennett took us to places I never expected to see. The game, on and off the court, has changed. That system is a relic. Ron running a worse version of that system isn’t helping. Ron is a nice guy and people want to hold on to the past, I get that. But the Bennett Era is over. The sooner we accept that, the sooner we can build for success in the new landscape of college hoops.

You want to use bad losses to disqualify Byington who is in his first year but not apply same metric to Sanchez? Our home loss to Notre Dame is worse than any of Vandy’s.

Team got a good win Monday against a very mediocre Pitt team that I think I read is 2-6 in their last 8. Happy for them. But thinking Ron is the answer is a recipe for disaster.

The game has changed immensely off the court. On the court, it hasn’t. The system isn’t a relic. You can win with any system if it’s well coached and you have the players to execute it.

The quickest way for UVA to have success is to build with what they have. If this team stays together, they are going to be pretty damn good the next 2 years.

But the team isn’t staying together and it’s not well coached

Here’s where @HoopinHoos talks down to you in his all knowing glory and tells you that you don’t know basketball and your eyes are lying to you. This team is better than its record and it’s metrics.

I appreciate that this team hasn’t given up on the season given the circumstances. But I firmly believe you are in an alternate reality if you think this team sticks together.
