Kick the tires with Shaka, Otz, Few. Honestly, Iād check on Jay Wright ā talk about a great fit, but heās 64 and has he regained the hunger?
My preference would be a P5 or someone whoās coached a a high-major-like.
Just my preference. Our experience has been all over the place.
Iād order our last five coaches this way:
Bennett (42) ā national coach of the year, P5 (P6), had taken Wash St to a S16.
Holland (32) ā successful at Southern Conference Davidson. Won a conference tourney, went to the NCAA.
Jones (30) ā Holland protege. No previous HC experience.
Gillen (51) ā had some success in the Big East, with one tournament in four years, but was far better at lower-level Xavier, which was MWCC at the time.
Leitao (45) ā not sure what we were thinking there. 1 tourney in three years in the Big East. And really hadnāt been good at Northeastern.

Otz was like flat palms pressed together and heād bring his hands apart at the elbows and mash them together like one of those monkey with cymbals toys.
Canāt sign up for a contract of that skill set from the HC position.

And yet those 2 are arguably just as good as Pope, who Kentucky hired last year. Most teams go for the up and comer. We should shoot for rhe Shakas or the world, but itās much more likely that we (like most other good basketball schools), go for someone who is a riser with a less complete resume.
Said differently, we are not better than those guys. They are right in our, and other strong programsā, wheelhouse.

Byington doubling up Beard early
Luke Murray and Kirk Penny would be the only two non-head coaches I would even consider and even then still skeptical. Need someone with head coaching experience at college level
