Its 43-19 VCU at half… Davidson is pretty mid (they did beat Providence). Wonder what the spread is

I totally forgot about this. I knew Fisher took over, but I had forgotten why.

So Frieder thought he could pull it off. But Bo Schembechler said no

Torvik was VCU -14.8

Box. No one knows. We aint even knew when our old coach would retire

I would wait for the first person during his conference tournament to say out loud ā€œi am
NOT leaving New Mexico/ VCUā€ and then we know

Another 2nd half where VCU kinda played like shit, but it didn’t really matter because they were up by so much. Basically just coasted for 20 minutes.

Box score looks like they did a number on Reed Bailey.

Yeah Fermin and Bamgboye are a work in progress on offense, but they play some damn good post defense.

Bamgboye is rapidly improving offensively too. Has 17 in this one.

Ended up being Davidson’s third-largest defeat of the year (lost to Arizona by 33 and Gonzaga by 25).

If that’s the Final Four, we’re not hiring any of those coaches. Who’s the last coach to leave for another school immediately after making a FF? Stevens went to the NBA a few years later. May, Larranaga, Smart, Moser and even Calipari (Memphis version) stayed for at least another year or more before leaving. Cal (UMass version) left for the NBA immediately after the FF.

Who am I missing? Few and Dutcher are still there. Marshall resigned a decade later.

It’s funny you say that because their ā€œgame scoreā€ on Torvik was a 99. So they were just unbelievably dominant up until the coasting I guess

I mean they were up 24 at half and then went even in the 2nd half.

So, yeah that’s exactly what happened lol.

Lol there is an active vcu fan on the discord who thinks Odom is the best coach to ever coach at VCU.

So last year I feel like it was pretty well known that Schertz was leaving ISU for SLU while he was still active in the NIT, but that’s obviously different. Only thing I can think of recently.

He’s on a VCU love tear. Benefits of those Friday night games with no competition for eyeballs.

Let’s not get cute Carla! You don’t even need to get the jet out!

Here’s my take on the argument that winning at Utah St and VCU and New Mexico is less impressive because of those programs’ general history of winning comparably over the last decade or so before the subject coaching candidates arrived…

Isn’t that exactly the situation that an Odom or Pitino would be walking into at UVA? Taking over a program with high expectations and sustained recent success? Not to discount the value of an Olen-type building a nothing into a something, but while clearly our next coach will have some major restocking to do, it’s not like they’ll be taking over BC. UVA, like a VCU or others, is a nationally relevant brand with financial/fan/donor backing and media respect (relative to conference, etc), and we’re looking for a coach who knows how to build off that.

Add: Like saying ā€œall they did was keep winning at the level of their predecessorā€ is a bad thing when our next coach winning at the level of Bennett would be a home run.
