Possible name for the āP5 Step Upā category: Porter Moser? I think it depends on how good you think Oklahoma ought to be.
FWIW my top P5 Step Up guy would be Mike Rhoades.

Not saying heās a lock for the job or our top candidate but I think worth a call at least. 65 is older yes, but itās not like coaches stick around forever. Legends in the sport have a long tenure but good coaches arenāt always around for a long time. If we donāt get THE guy I would rather have a very good guy for 5 years even if that means heās older.
Scraping the barrel here for mid-major names that have done well relative to historical program water level. Your instinctual response might be ānone of these guys have the stature for the jobā to which I say āfine, but itās fun to type up more names.ā Anyway:
Iāve always kinda liked Leon Rice at Boise St. He was Mark Fewās first hire, kinda handled their international recruiting IIRC and he only makes a million a year at Boise I think. There are probably some upside candidates better than him and IDK about his recruiting to a conference like the ACC but heās a steady guy.
Also Lamont Paris I donāt know a ton about, but has that great turnaround year last year, and I wonder if heād consider a move come next year to a real basketball school lol. I liked the way his guards played on that team last year they were super tough. And he assisted under Bo Ryan I guess he just signed a new deal this year though.
I like Moser, but he needs to make the tournament this year at the very least to not be fired. This is both a P5 step-up and a beat the mob out of town, which can work out, case in point Shaka Smart.
Not sure about Rhodes. Think I like Odom better. And Rhodes has some PA ties so he might just like Penn State (or maybe heās a candidate at Villanova).
I think OU fans would be happy if we took him off his hands⦠never like that
Agree with your general premise but just wanted to note UNC NIL isnāt great compared to the other blue bloods or other schools⦠for some odd reason they seem to be putting a lot in football
Are there any NBA assistant coaches worth adding to the list of candidates?
I think heād be the guy at Richmond when the Spiders finally rid themselves of Mooney.
No thank you. NBA assistants without an extensive prior college background have not been successful college head coaches.
I believe our next coach will be on both this list and this yearās version of this list:
In the realm of reality, I kinda like Holtmann, Bryce Drew (both he and Holtmann are 52āish), and, of all people, Will Wade (although the admin would never take him, but in my mind he was just anticipating NIL - not sure how heād function with a salary cap). Will Wade is only 41 - if heās matured I think you have to kick the tires on him.
Sorta assume that we will be competing with Indiana and Florida at a minimum for a head coach (I am hoping that Sanchez and sthe team show steady improvement over the year and finish strong in the ACC tourney and make it to the NCAA - any less and we will be in a headstart position starting our search).
Learning that the hard way in Scott stadium right nowā¦
Hard no. Alford knows a lot about basketball but heās an unbelievable jerk. They still hate him with a white hot passion at U of Iowa.
Wouldnāt get done like this at UVa, I promiseā¦.
No Tang. Trust me you dont want Tang
Of STABās JV tennis team? Absolutely.
Millerās team is literally in the top 20 as we speak and heās landed back to back top 25 classes. He has recruited both HS and the portal very well during his time at Cincy and has a very talented roster this year.
Also, what he did at UNCG was unbelievable.
If weāre going to hire a coach accused of abusing his players, might as well be Gregg Marshall not Wardle.
Oops I missed that, was only looking at his Wikipedia page.
