I donāt care what stuff the next coach runs. Watching Alabama Auburn today only reinforced that we need a coach who can recruit dudes. There is no one on our team, IMac included, who would play meaningful minutes for those teams.

Auburn and Alabama have some of the biggest
Nil resources in the country. And great (or at least āmodernā) Xās and Oās coaches.
We are moving to budget and GMs closing recruits and coaches actually coaching while partnering with front offices to identify talent.

Also on the Brad Franklin podcast this week they casually dropped that we have signed on a 3rd party analytics firm to help identify talent for both football and basketball. The firm apparently works with 3 other clients - all top 15 schools currently in basketball.

I do hope there is a human eyes factors/coach gets input. Some kids whose analytics sucks but have potential. Miles Kelly sucked at Georgia tech (sub 1000 player) and now heās a top 100 player at Auburn for example.
Not just raw talent but fit with scheme and fit with roster and fit with coach personality wise are huge.

Yeah, because the eye test also said he sucked at GT. Measurables off the charts, but had no court awareness in Atlanta.
You love about 1,000 players in the portal. And even you would have steered clear of Kelly in the offseason, saying heās washed or something.
Yep. A coach still needs to own roster strategy (profile of players needed) and do a lot of scouting of players identified in partnership with the front office.
The gm will ultimately take a leadership role in the negotiations to sign the player.

I donāt think thatās true because Ive grown on the idea of adding Donald Hand Jr who is essentially the same player at BC as Kelly as GT.
Also itās not about what I want; of course Im going to miss on players. Thatās why I want coachās eye test and not just analytics so its kinda my point. There are kids out there who have value in a coachās eye that the analytics will hate.

Disagree with this. Kelly absolutely passed the eye test. Thatās why Pearl pursued him and probably paid him a bag.

Also would like to clarify not everyone on the 40 person list are players I actually want; just ones that make sense for someone building a new roster. For example Jarin Stevenson is a trap and that Howard freshman averaging 30 pts a game for a losing MEAC team is also bait. But they are also on the list because they make sense from a geographic location and Im sure a coach with their own unique schemes might see value in them.
