šŸ€ Next Basketball Head Coach Speculation Thread

Any idea who is on their short list?

Well, I guess at least we cost them a lot of money.

Pretty sure every State fan would still take that Final Four run. Wouldn’t call it a gut punch.

Dear God don’t let them get Beard :upside_down_face:

I dunno. I hope they get a good coach. It’s a program with real history. I would love to see the old ACC programs: NC State, Wake, GT raise their floor.

Just hope there next Coach isn’t as good as our next Coach.

I don’t think Beard would leave an SEC post for the chance to be an ACC team living in the shadow of Duke and UNC. But actually would be good for the ACC if he did.

Will Wade seems to make a lot of sense though.

So everyone was right. He was on the hot seat last year until…

Something about state has always just rubbed me wrong. I don’t like them. Would much rather see the wakes and Georgia techs be good than them haha

Kendall’s current ranking of widely-discussed options:

1 Byington - Cuts from the Corner’s top choice is my top choice. He grinds the tape, I follow blindly.

2 Shaka Smart - Tracking deflections with a wipeboard on the bench warms my heart on so many levels. Plus, a name brand, needle-mover that cements UVA’s status among the sub-elite.

3 Richard Pitino - Massive recruiting upside and aggressive, up-tempo system. One quick phone call away from one of the top three college basketball minds of the modern era. Name brand. Still quite young. Fun interview, grants access and insight to the team.

4 Ryan Odom - Fates intertwined. Has won everywhere he’s been. Aggressive style of play. Proven team and program builder. Good potential to lure top-notch assistants. Older than I’d like and kind of a boring dude.

5 Olen - Out of left field but a rapid riser with a beautiful system.

6 Richey, Henderson, other mid-major dudes - You’re rolling the dice just like every other P6 program.

7 Rick Carlisle - Too old, weird timing with the Pacers in the playoffs, and can/will he even recruit?

8 McCollum - I’m a huge NO on Ben McCollum. We don’t know if he can recruit, and I have had more than enough of the glacial pace (which also makes me believe he’d struggle to recruit.) No thanks.

9 Ronchez - In over his head, runs too much of the bad stuff from Bennettball, and a Madame Tussaud wax statue on the sideline and in interviews. We Ron it back? My personal investment in Virginia Basketball is in serious jeopardy of completely ending.

I feel the same way about them. The VT of NC.

Good for Keatts get a final 4 run, a big check and now can get the hell outta Raleigh take some mid-major job and enjoy his $8mil buyout

Good way of putting it

Wow. This is wildly spot on. Ridiculously pompous fanbase for how little they’ve accomplished. Sounds a lot like our friends from Blacksburg

Maybe just me but I feel like Pitino would make a lot of sense for them.

Wade, Odom, and Pitino are the names I’ve heard in the last few min

Yes. He has that middle child energy that works for their group psyche. They have a barn to fill and his SM engagement would do its part.

I wouldn’t mind seeing them hire a good heel (like wresting, not Tar). Makes sports better to have personalities you actively dislike.

Wade would totally be a State hire

Also true, they don’t care how the sausage is made as long as they perceive that they are peers with the brotherhood and foot locker.

I mean you still take the final four but it can be a gut punch. Seemed like they were heading upward with good recruits and finding some transfers and then have an awful season. Plus you pay a multi million buyout now probably.

I’ll take our 2019 national championship any day but it’s still a gut punch at how bad we are right now and where the program is currently at.
