Why not? I could easily do all three jobs.

Also why I think Ron and TE will still be coaches.

A complete athletic department overhaul could have devastating affects at this current time given the coaching situations on the two top revenue sports.

There’s not much that makes me legitimately afraid for an athletic program but the timing on this does it.

See I am starting to disagree here.

Ron stays and TE stays.

I dont think an AD is so important. I do think ADs can make huge mistakes in hiring

Don’t hate the idea of Ron for continuity purposes because I feel really good about this core for next year, but I hope he has a very short leash. I know that’s unfair to him but if he’s retained then falls short of expectations next year and recruiting is meh then it’s going to be very clear where this is headed. Just worry we’ll have a few throwaway years when we get a jumpstart on a reset this offseason when it’s probably needed

Elliott is keeping his job anyway. I guess maybe if they hadn’t ended the skid and finished 4-8 looking bad at the end, it was a possibility. But now, no chance.

I don’t know anything about the AD situation. But if he contract is up in the spring, it’ll be sorted out in advance of needing to make a new basketball hire, if necessary. Can’t allow that to impact things.

That’s why it concerns me. A new AD in 25/26 likely lets Tony play out his contract then who knows. The Ron situation gets sticky because i imagine he’d be in yesr 1 a new 4 yr deal.

Either way ADs tend to like to put their mark on their programs and unlike some I generally like Carla and trust her judgement especially when compared to unknown person X.

At least it will be easy to come up with interview questions for the new AD.

ā€œSo…who would you hire as the basketball coach and the football coach?ā€

Man I just hope we wouldn’t be stupid enough to put any sort of substantial buyout in Ron’s contract. There’s no rule you have to make him expensive to fire. You only have to do that to attract somebody who would be in demand elsewhere.

Yeah I was about to say.

I am both of the opinion of giving Ron 2-3 years (HS recruiting not that important short term with UVA having NIL now and plenty of former top 75 recruits in the portal after their first year/ I really like the long term trajectory of this roster)

But we also have all the leverage: No one out there is like ā€œWe gotta hire Ron Sanchez right nowā€. We hold all the cards in that regard.

I would ask: where do you see yourself in 5 years. If they answer ā€œBlacksburg maybeā€ā€¦ hired

No chance he has that right? Hence being handcuffed as interim

Uncage Ron!

I have no idea what his current deal is. I’m assuming if they remove the interim tag, they would negotiate a new deal.

ā€œTell me about a time when you faced a complex problem, like, say, hiring a football coach for a program that had only beaten its in state arch rival once in the past 2 decades, and how you solved it.ā€

Not the dr scholl’s option pricing model?

I think we’ll know more about the Sanchez situation over the next 2 weeks. If he surprises in one of the Bahamas we’re looking at removing the interim tag. 0-3 with a loss to this Nova team? Ryan Odom can start writing his contract up.
