I will say, that Maryland team was kind of cool. Mostly for the shit they threw at Duke. Enemies of my enemies and all that.

Had a good friend go play football there Eric Wilson, nicest guy in the world, we played a lot of city rec hoops together back in the day.
My first year last away game was on that goat field in college park. Terribly windy, hit a decent punt while running down the field I noticed in the pile they were swinging, throwing fists at my guy Brian Holoman who made the tackle. I started to sprint and looked to my right and there was an unsuspecting twerp. So of course I lowered my helmet hit him underneath the chin. Got major props from the fellas.
Fast forward a few years later, boomer esiason was there qb he got knocked out of bounds in front of me got up running his mouth as he got up I pushed him back down.
Hate those mofos

Jeep sponsoring the Big East tournament is very funny to me. Has to be the lowest car ownership percentage of watchers for any league right?

Looks like some teams, certainly Boise State, passed on the NIT for this.

A lot of h&t portal targets in that field. Late entries?

Only 4 power conference teams in the NIT: Who is playing in this year’s NIT? Dayton, SMU, UC Irvine, San Francisco grab top seeds - The Athletic

Outside of Oklahoma State, no other Big 12 or Big Ten conference teams are in this year’s tournament, and just four power conference teams are in the field.

Though a lot also declined the Crown tournament: What is the College Basketball Crown, and who’s invited to the first one? Full bracket, details - The Athletic

A number of power conference teams declined invitations, including some in line for automatic bids, such as Indiana, West Virginia and Ohio State, despite uncertainty regarding the contractual obligations of the six automatic bids. Rutgers, Kansas State, Penn State, Wake Forest and TCU also declined possible at-large invites.

The Crown is the Fox tournament, so its where all the BIG, Big 12, and Big East teams will opt to go to.

The NIT is now the ESPN (SEC & ACC) alternative tournament.

Edit: and when 14 of 16 SEC make the big dance, you aren’t left with much power teams in the ESPN universe to create a compelling NIT field.

I know not many people will care or even notice. It’s a little sad. There was a certain charm to the NIT being the best of the rest. Moving it away from MSG seemed like the death blow already though.

It is a little sad but I was around for the cancelled WS. There’s no sacred cows in this business my friend.

Yeah, this tourney is great news for anyone who thought the NIT needed to be more watered down, and that the finals should be played in Vegas while Siegfried and Roy are on hiatus.

Who am I kidding tho? The winners will probably feast on poptart mascots and this thing will go viral
