I personally think heās at about the best moment in years to potentially move on, but Iām told theyāve become increasingly C-ville centric in recent years and might surprise by being willing to stay on under CRS (and any possible transition) so I dunno what to think.
I was told during Austinās recruiting that, after he visited Liberty with Chance and heard about all the social rules, heād rather give up college hoops than go there, lol.
I liked the idea of Aiden Mahaney more than the actual player if that makes any sense at all.
On a somewhat similar note (guys we almost landed), Xavier Amos is not logging many minutes in the cupcake portion of Wisconsinās schedule. Not shocking since heās a project but probably not someone who was a serious āmissā for us given Cofieās emergence and landing Power + Saunders
I was lamenting how UVAās only played two games, then I checked and noticed there are a bunch of other teams in the same boat (more teams have played 3 or more, but lots of teams are still at 2).
And then I saw poor Fresno State is the only school in the country to have finished only a single game. Their season didnāt start until Friday (they beat SacState 64-57) and their second game (against UCSB) just started.
Guy who sits next to me at work is a pretty big Wisconsin fan and I asked about Amos the other day and his initial response was āwho?ā Which doesnāt make me feel like weāre missing much.
There were signs with Mahaney. 38% from the field and less than 3 assists per game wasnāt really what this team needed.
The Dai Dai jury is still TBD, but yea, Mahaney has not been overly impressive, and Malik Mack is avg 11 pts 4 asst, but 4 TO and only shooting 22% from 3 in 33mpg. That is the comparison Iāll watch as the year goes along.
At PF, itās still early, but I think we hit a HR with Saunders compared to the possible others. I think weād all take Saunders today over Amos, Traudt, Igor., and Joshua Jefferson who is avg 8 pts and 5 boards in 22mpg at Iowa St. Of course Power is still a major TBD.
Jefferson is the one that will be as good or better than Saunders imo. Question is how would Saunders be on a top 10 team with more talent and experience? Iād guess 8 and 6 or something along those lines. Jefferson a better rebounder and passer but maybe not as much of a three point threat. Will be interesting to watch
If weāre looking at āguards who got awayā, have to include Trent Perry, 5.7 ppg, 1.3 apg, 0.7 topg, 1.0 stlpg, 25% FG%, 33% 3P% through three games, all off the bench, 18 mpg. UCLA lost to New Mexico in a neutral site game in Las Vegas.
