Oh man youâre such a tease. You know you want to come back to us.
Man if we get 3/4 of Lewis/Chance/TDR/GrĂźnloh back and have a pulse in the portal we are a top 15 team. Do I have fan brain or no?
Too many busts with big money guys for me to get too excited but I will still get excited
I can smell the future redshirts from here:
Donât think Lewis has the Handle or creation to be the two. We saw him almost exclusively at the 3 and sometimes the 4 like he was used at Toledo. Odom is like Bennett in that he gravitates towards the 2 pg lineups (we saw more and more Chance-Hall lineups as the season went on).
De Ridder also shouldnât be driving too much and he is better as a mismatch 4 man who can out mobile other bigs and punish teams who go small.
With more weight added on I want to see GrĂźnloh set stronger screens. We werenât getting a lot of separation for shooters this year. Part of it was design because it seemed like the screener always slipped the screen at times instead of committing to take someone from the defense out of the play.
I also wonder if we focused too much on adding shooting and not playmaking, leading to less open shots which resulted in the dip in 3pt shooting our players saw. Whereas if you add too many playmakers you add more open 3s which could lead to improved percentages from mid 30s 3pt shooters
TDR is a 4.
Chance/A ball handling combo/Lewis/TDR/GrĂźnloh
I saw enough of the Frenchman to know I donât trust him.
I want Acaden Lewis for the starting 2 slot. Thanks.
hey, donât know if anyone can help but i recently just rescribed for vip and try to access the vip chat and it keeps telling me to buy it again . can anyone help or point me in a direction?
Broadly agree, Lewis will have the offseason homework of needing to work on creating out of ball screens, and we need more playmaking out of perimeter players besides the PGs.
If you look at Odomâs last VCU team (which before the season he said was closest to his ideal style), playmaking for others was distributed pretty evenly between their top 4 perimeter players, and Clark got in on the action some. This year ours was concentrated more in Hall and Mallory.
Really fantastic first year. If the quotes are true, retaining Sam + TDR (and assuming Chance + GrĂźnloh) is the framework of a top 10 team.
Biggest offseason task is upgrading the Malik spot to a bonafide star level wing. Malik was good, but we need someone with a bit more length, ability to create and defensive chops.
Kudos to the staff for building a 30 win team in their first go around.
Will be interesting choice for staff in portal season between spending big for 1-2 top talents or spreading the funds around to build playable depth like we had this season. Did they see enough development from the #9 10 and 11 players on the bench to retain them? The roster building season will be fantastic to monitor.
Players say they are coming back all the time then leave. Not to be a downer, just managing expectations.
I would say Lewis seemed genuine in coming back next year (or at least planning on it). TDR seemed like he was being polite
Real question. Did any of our transfer eligible guys do anything that makes them more valuable somewhere else? If you think Sam Lewis is gonna put Ty Jerome like work in this summer then yes. Otherwise, other than experience, I am not so sure
My completely uninformed guess is TDR is between UVA and Europe. If he decides to stay in the US for another year, yeah he likely comes back. But he hasnât made up his mind about staying, likely needs his agent to see what offers he can get back in Europe for this upcoming year. Also not sure if heâs got any FIBA commitments to plan around.
Iâm sure other elite/high level teams with a lot of talent at the guards would love TDR as a 3rd or 4th option and he would excel in that role. And Iâm sure a lot of mid and just above level teams would love him as a first or second option.
But you are right on Sam. The best teams that would pay a lot of money would dig down on his numbers against top competition and likely shy away a bit.
I havenât been following the portal/recruiting side during the season but are we just not prioritizing recruiting high schoolers anymore? Doesnât seem like it is even part of the discussion.
Think most of the top targets committed elsewhere given the unknown with UVA and Odom, but I anticipate that will change now that heâs proven himself in year 1. Probably another heavy transfer year, then high school recruits will pick up in subsequent years would be my guess.
I fixed it @JacobTwiddy05 ⌠let me know if you canât access now.
