Just the fact that itâs womenâs basketball should be distraction enough from whatever clusterfuck is going on there.

Cool roster projection tool
Expect Evans from Tennessee to enter the portal soon
The only OTE guy from the Burgh I would be interested in is Meleek Thomas. I assume heâs either NBA bound or running it back with Cal.
That kid looks every bit of an NBA player to me, but I feel like I never see him in mock drafts. I imagine heâs back at Arkansas in a feature role.
Good athlete, great shooter, good size and has a good frame to put on healthy weight in the NBA. Kind of an idiot sometimes, but fixable and seems like the type of guy that would thrive in a limited role with a more ball dominant star to keep him from some of his worse tendencies. Iâd want my team to draft him for sure. No reason he canât be a very good 3&D guy.
CJ Moore at the Athletic has us 20th.
Illinois, Michigan, Arizona, Florida, Duke, UConn
20. Virginia
Starters: Chance Mallory, Sam Lewis, Portal TBD, Thijs De Ridder, Johann GrĂźnloh
Notable returners: Silas Barksdale (redshirted), Elijah Gertrude, Martin Carrere
Newcomers: N/A
The international frontcourt of Thijs De Ridder and Johann GrĂźnloh hit this past season, and De Ridder could be an All-America-level player as a sophomore. With those two back, Virginia should have elite rim protection and have one of the best two-point defenses again. Thereâs a lot of work to be done to add depth outside of the four projected starters. Coach Ryan Odom has yet to sign a 2026 recruit, and the returners outside of the projected starting lineup scored a combined 50 points last season.
The athletic guy always has uva lower than the rest.
I know these are silly, butâŚ
Behind SLU, TCU, Texas, and Kentucky? Iâm so sure. Wanna bet?
Iowa without Stirtz? Kansas literally has 3 âPortal TBDâ starters lol.
I get that there is a healthy amount of projection in who these slots will be filled with, but we donât seem to be getting near as generous of a projection as the other teams. We ended the season ranked 9th or so and are still getting listed as returning Sam with the other 2 starters and Chance. Ridiculous ranking if you apply the same rules to every team there.
Thereâs also a bunch of players listed on those teams that wonât be playing for the team theyâre listed with next year.
Also I donât actually have a problem with his Purdue ranking, and Painter does a good job, but theyâre losing an awful lot⌠This shouldâve been their year. Theyâre probably projecting another jolly green giant commit though.
Thiam or James WhiteâŚ
I think itâs pretty hard to predict anything when your fifth starter is âTBDâ and your returning bench players averaged a total of about 2 points a game. These guys admit the lists are âway too early,â which essentially means theyâre admitting theyâre useless.
Just meant in general. They always have us lower than national average. Think we were like 15-16 on there when we were 10 AP poll.

This is one I think we should be in on. Might only have one year left of eligibility.
If both dudes were from Florida, who would you rather have next year?
- Burton
- Mallory
I get the argument, but Mallory has more eligibility left and rates much better on advanced metrics.
Burton isnât exactly a point god, and Iâd probably rather have his scoring punch from bigger guys that are harder to guard.
The one thing I have to concede is that we do have a lot less signed to come in this year than most of the other teams on the list. And by less, I obviously mean nothing, while everyone else seems to have someone and in some cases actual, real incoming freshman recruiting classes.
