đŸ—ș Potential ACC Expansion & Conference Realignment

Clemson and FSU would materially deplete the ACC’s football prowess, which is already behind the other P4 conferences, including the Big XII. But the bigger fear is what shoes drop next, particularly UNC and maybe Miami looking for exits.

I do not have any insider knowledge on what U.Va. is doing regarding realignment, so if others do and feel U.Va. is preparing for ACC fallout, that’s good to hear.

Agree with that all around. Part of why I liked going out in that area. Played in 2 Mardi Gras tournaments hosted by Tulane and always liked that part of NOLA.

@jazznutUVA I’m all for your hierarchy of schools minus the PSU. I know a few Devil Dog recruiters who would be sure to take great care of yours should they go that way. They can join me on the pitch with Old Breed in 10 yrs.

We’ll just disagree if your position is that the Big XII without Texas and Oklahoma is already ahead of the ACC with FSU and Clemson despite the ACC media payout being larger per team through the Big XII’s upcoming contract.

We can only hope Wally Walker is involved more than Carla in that.

Why? Carla is one of the most connected and respected AD’s in the country. The main reason I’m not worried UVA will find a landing spot is because of Carla. We’d be screwed if Littlepage was still in charge

I don’t trust that she has the experience to lead UVA through that hardball negotiation process. She can ride shotgun with Wally but I don’t want her leading the charge for us.

This is not a challenge but a questions out of ignorance: what is Wally’s experience that makes him more qualified? All I know him as is a great basketball player from when my parents were growing up

From reports of the most recent realignment, this is University President and BOV level negotiations, not AD level.

The Tony Bennett recommendation carries huge weight with UVA fans but his experience as Sonics GM/President is probably more applicable. Still not sure how he would have a better handle on the landscape of collegiate athletics conference realignment though.

Yea, I’m all for Wally and think he’s great. But to assume that he walks in the door day 1 and has a better grasp on anything UVa athletics related than Carla is suspect at best.

Guys like Wally and Mr Parkhill are what the older fan base absolutely identifies with. Also, he has an MBA from Stanford and worked at Goldman before starting his own money management firm (I think). Also his GM experience as mentioned

Guys like him know where the money proposition is with big time donor types. And he is a really cool guy

His years in the Bay Area where so much has gone on past 20-30 years could translate

Cant argue from far but he is and has been way closer to UVa through the years than people realise. He moves in silence exact opposite way I would ha

Wally is the Deputy Athletic Director for UVA as of September. He was brought back in for several reasons IMO, including expansion. Wally has negotiated many many high powered deals. Carla has not and she is unproven. Would be good for her to learn from Wally as this unfolds.

This
Carla has been very active behind the scenes in terms of realignment. 99.9% sure we will not be left out in the cold. Just saying

Good point. Also believe we are in better shape with Ryan in charge than we would’ve been under Sullivan

Pretty sure our destination has been determined since before Wally was hired. Things change so I could be wrong but I think that’s the case.

But sometimes my info is SECond hand

That makes sense and falls in line with what little I know.

Also my stance is not a knock on Wally and what he can or can’t do. But it’s more of a vote of confidence for Carla and her ability to do the job she has done well for the past several year.

I can see it now. UVA was lined up to get the final spot in one of the mega conferences, then Scheyer told that conference that he had their back and some brotherhood bullshit, and they flipped to Duke at the last minute.

Some ACC scheduling discussion (what do we do now with the bigger conference) for those into that kind of thing:
