Pre-season 2022

And 7 mins for Nova. Brizzi would be nice here and now (coming off a RS), backing up Reece w Kihei elsewhere

This looks like it was in addition to their Midnight Madness event, which was also streamed, and also featured a 5-10 minute scrimmage.

Plus the UNC highlights were from a fan site. The full game is available on ACCNX:

Meanwhile, our program has goons who shut down live streaming, and extensive highlights, and warn poor @rushdacote to not even post a box score. I should stop complaining about this, but it’s just really dumb, and also annoying, and also dumb. Also annoying.

It also sucks for the players. I’m sure they’d love the platform/brand from streaming. Who does the blackout benefit?

Absolutely nobody at all. In my opinion. (but it’s the correct opinion)

It comes from this stupid mindset that Tony is this fragile creature who will run away to coach middle school in Wisconsin if we point out that he’s being a narrow-minded dummy on this particular issue.

EDIT - actually this is incorrect. It benefits local fans w/o other commitments at this point in their life who can go live and don’t care about live or after the fact streaming. Because they get to watch UVa hoops and the rest of us don’t.

Fwiw, I will almost certainly be there on Saturday and can probably provide some @rushdacote -esque play by play

I guess I’m just hinting at what you probably agree with. Not only is Tony being stubborn, he is being selfish.

I also assume Tony would rather they play hard for a packed streamed scrimmage than stay up all night streaming on twitch……

Send him an email, or hell, Carla

I do my whining on the internet. Tbh, I’m not really someone Tony or the staff (or the AD) needs to cater to. I just hope those who he does need to cater to have made this abundantly clear, and I suspect they have, and here we are still (I’ll stop complaining now, and just return to talking about the hoops that we actually can see).

Waste of time based off my emails with Wideman last year. Only way it has any chance of change is if someone who actually knows Tony (and that Tony respects) explains to him how much consternation it is causing the fan base. Otherwise we are all just waiting until TB decides he wants to return to doing things the way he did them when he won a national title.

Awesome - thanks.

It’s not goons. It’s Tony Bennett.

Not doing all you could do to build both individual and team brands pre NIL was foolish. Not doing it post NIL is malpractice.

Interesting question - how many wins per year would you trade for content/engagement? Personally, to go from our level of fan content to a duke level of fan content, I might take 2-3 more losses per year.

This is not to say it is a trade off but depending how that trade off sits with you, probably determines how replaceable you think CTB is. In other words at what point of closed off-ness does it not even matter how many games you win because the fan experience is so uninteresting?

The problem is it’s causing consternation for a fairly minimal amount of people. Now granted, all of those people are diehards, but it’s not like there are tens of thousands of UVA fans out there beating down the door for blue white scrimmage streaming.

And it’s not like Tony is doing it because he hates his fans. He’s doing it because he thinks any competitive disadvantage matters. Whether he is right or wrong and being paranoid (I know what most people here think), that’s the bottom line. Would also likely hurt in game attendance more.

I wish he’d let them stream the games too, but he’s Tony Bennett, so he can do whatever the hell he wants.

I would trade zero, but, and I know this is a hypo, one of my points on this is that I think content/engagement would probably have a (very slight) positive effect on program success.

We will have a court sketch artist there this year… At least that’s some progress.

Hey, does anyone have any thoughts on our basketball team’s lack of streaming stuff?

I agree that the trade off doesn’t exist. What I’m saying is that often people say that if we push Tony too hard he will leave. But at what point does it become worth it to push? In other words, if we win all the time but Tony manages to make it so none of our games are even on TV, I think we would agree that we would want to push as hard as possible.

I can’t wait until Bennett babies (not derogatory, just those who have only become fans in the last 10 years) experience no Tony Bennett. It’s going to be wild.

Okay, actually, yes I can wait because it’s going to suck (no, I don’t think anyone is coming in and even coming close to Tony Bennett level success, even Williford).

Ok.
