Pre-season 2022

But when he streamed it WE WON A NATIONAL TITLE!!! And had better attendance than we do now (okay covid definitely skews this one lol). I hope someone in the athletic department has at least least made him aware of these facts.

I just want the national title version of TB. I don’t want him to do anything he hasn’t done before

Dont let people gaslight you. They streamed the year we won the national title. They used to post 5 minutes clips.

We are not asking for more. We are asking for a return to what we used to do during 2014-2019. The whole “You are going to miss Tony when he is gone” is pretty irrelevant to the conversation. How dare us non billionaire donors ask for any access to the program.

We won the national title the year we streamed the scrimmage. It gives UVA an opportunity to give access to our program to people across the state and build our brand/give anyone not linked to UVA or CVille an opportunity to become a fan. Tony’s all about getting his message across; it would let others learn about the pillars and what not. It gives fans who live all over the world an escapism from the stressful events of the last.

Complaining about the lack of streams doesnt make you a bad person

I don’t think it’s about any one specific issue (streaming this or highlights that). I think it’s about the way he wants to run the program. He fairly obviously wants it closed off from any true view into lineups, strategies, etc.

It’s a little silly but it’s what he wants. And I don’t think complaining about it is going to change anything at this point. Definitely doesn’t make you a bad person to want it.

I think the streaming chastity police are less online than those of advocating for more streams. It would be hard to look at other team’s social presence and not conclude we are painfully lagging - I think the WBB team has better social media presence. I can understand how – if you don’t see all of the content other groups produce – you might think UVA was more average than totally behind and not want to poke the bear.

My question to him on the topic would be is he aware that he made things tighter and less open to fans AFTER the national title? That’s the thing that is frustrating. If he had always been like this, I’d understand it more. But he reached the ultimate goal and then decided to turn the program into Ft. Knox.

I’m not sure Tony hasn’t convinced himself this is how he’s always done things.

Yeah that would be interesting to know. Maybe because we were so good before the natty and then have been not as good since he wants to lock it down more to give himself every advantage? It’s hard to know unless he answered a media question on it.

Maybe he’s always wanted to do it, but didn’t have enough clout to have his way, but after the natty he gets to do everything the way he wants? just thinking out loud there, though.

If McKneeley cracks the rotation, but it isn’t streamed and/or the highlights are not up to snuff, did he even average 25 ppg and win ACC and NCAA Rookie of the Year?

Wow. How’d you get that? VPN or are you outside of the 1,500 mile blackout?

this is semi-related to the entire streaming thing. in general, the event lacks much in the way of atmosphere. to the point where in years past i have wondered if hosting a recruit is a “good” thing. imagine the comp. btw what we do in the middle of a saturday and a school doing midnight madness type events.

SO the question - does the Hoo Crew try to make attendance for this into a thing?? it seems like they haven’t in the past but i have no clue why. We generally have a great student section so it wouldn’t take much (i can dream about Tony asking them all to come, but shit we just need their leader to email blast the group and then try to find a way to give someone a priority point for coming).

Any of the current students on here know? if we could fill most of the lower bowl that would be impactful, IMHO.

The streaming question seriously cracks me up at how much digital ink is spent on it. I do think we create our own echo chamber in these corners of the internet talking about. It’s honestly never been a conversation I’ve had with Virginia fans I know offline. I know, that’s just my isolated experience so take it for what it’s worth. But I do think it’s funny how how much time is spent dwelling on it and analyzing it.

The fact that a question, serious or not, was raised about hypothetically trading wins for content blows my mind.

I’m trying to think what all those Brennan Armstrong summer workout clips did for the football team’s success…

I was a student during the championship year and also went to every home game during the academic term for two years and I did not know the scrimmage even existed until browsing these forums if that answers the attendance question.

There was plenty of student hoops appetite as demonstrated by game attendance but I don’t think this event is advertised like the midnight madness events seem to be.

It is such a tempest in a teapot. I personally wouldn’t mind seeing the game streamed, but I don’t really care that much. It’s just that Blue-White week and usually some other random weeks (or foreign trips) become intolerable here.

If everyone here that felt strongly joined together to make their position known to Bennett or Carla, maybe they’d do something. But I doubt that 12 people out of an entire fan base are going to move the needle. And unfortunately I don’t think “suffer in silence” is going to be the practice for the dissatisfied. It would be nice to have a Blue White complaint thread so I could just avoid the teeth gnashing altogether.

If we’d been building and selling a brand over the years, it’d be much better. And if you want the truth, the group we should have been marketing to are non-alums. The wine and cheese crowd are never, ever going to be the rabid fan base you want or need. There’s another VA school that did just that and they built it off of just a few years of very good football. It pains me to type that, but it’s true.

This is up now on some of the platforms if anyone wants to listen.
