I am so glad they cancelled. No prep time, serious risk of injury as outlined above. Take this time for the team to heal, nothing more. I’ll have no problem if Tech is cancelled as well. The trauma this team has experienced will be lasting and healing will be slow. These are kids. God bless them all.
Yeah, I just re-watched the video from WTVR’s website. The interview was actually done with a Philly TV station. It also appears to be heavily edited. Maybe Ryan was relaying what someone else told her they saw, but the editing makes it sound like she’s providing her first-person perception. It’s really hard to say. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t really matter. I just found it interesting that the two accounts seemed inconsistent. And the truth is that I’m probably trying to distract myself from the horror and sadness I feel by focusing on “evidence.”
In mulling it over I agree - football is different … injury is a moment of lack of concentration away …
Maybe a flag football or 7 on 7 with other students or even some community bocce ball on the field …
As far as other sports this week:
Women’s Soccer -
Fri. 2pm - 2nd round vs Xavier @ Penn State
Mens Soccer
Sun 1pm - NCAA 2nd Round vs. Elon or Marshall at UVA
Mens Basketball:
Fri 7 pm vs Baylor in Las Vegas
Sun TBD vs UCLA/Illinois in Las Vegas
Volleyball
Sun 1pm vs Wake Forest at UVA
Cross Country - Men and Women qualified
Sat 10 am at NCAA Nationals
I’m also pretty sure Women’s basketball will be playing American University at AU. So for any DMV-based Hoos, could be nice to go see them and support them.
Women’s BB plays tonight at 7 at Loyola-Chicago. On ESPN+. But what we really need is a home game.
As far as the football team playing again that decision would have to come from the players. I can’t imagine the grief they are going through but i will totally respect their decision whatever that may be. As far as some kind of ceremony or something i hope we find out as soon as possible. I live over 4 hours away but would try to come and if i can’t make it i will send some support but i hope i can come. If you guys hear anything about it let me know as soon as possible so i can try to arrange something.
First I have seen of something from the Hagans family.
Man that just kills you inside. His boys comsider those guys family and it is real
Completely heartbroken. But the more I hear about these guys who were affected, the more proud I am that they were(and still are) representing the school and football team. I think we all agree this year was a tough year on the field, but it really shows the success the program has in finding, getting, and developing amazing and kind people.
Bronco is just a good dude.
Seeing the Hagans kids with them is just really heartbreaking. Just so terrible and so many affected by it.Like @bdhammond28 said is very true. We are hard on these guys on the field but we all can take pride in how great these guys were as a person. I don’t believe many teams can have so many kids with just great character as UVA does.. Forget the results on the field. I am just so glad that these guys weren’t just football players but some of the best guys you would ever want to know and I am forever extremely proud of them
President Ryan posted a video about 30 minutes ago saying there is a memorial service at JPJ on Saturday at 3:30
It should be at Scott. I don’t think JPJ will be big enough.
Please tell me “walk again” is not in question over the long term. Please.
I heard “expected to make a full recovery” from a few different places.
I’m just happy to see his face again in stable condition. I really do hope he is able to have a successful rehab, but at the end of the day I hope he’s able to live in a mentally well state. That can’t be easy on anybody.
I had the same thought. The article reads…"Although he’s got a long way to go, Hollins attempted to take his first steps since the shooting, signifying a strong start to recovery.
“They had him stand up today just to put some weight on it, and they started talking to him about his walking [and] rehab that he’s going to have to do in the next few days,” McKernan said.
Hollins’ former football coach at U High, Andy Martin, has also been keeping a close eye on Hollins’ recovery from afar.
“I know that once he gets into the phase of recovery, it’s a three-to-four months recovery of just not being able to do much, just trying to recover,” Martin said.
This is pretty cool…
